Director of Education - Crofton
Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for the Sylvan instructional program/educational standards; oversees the hiring, training and performance of the instructors. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Hires and manages instructors, test administrators, teaching assistants and other educational staff
- Schedules and conducts student progress meetings (may depend on region)
- Manages the centers PT labor budget
- Maintains education materials
- Motivates and develops staff
- Reports education statistics weekly (length of stay, ratio, holds, disenrolls).
- Trains and develops instructors/staff effectively through initial and follow-up training, as well as ongoing workshops.
- Schedules staff appropriately to meet instructional demands, and to maintain a 3:1 ratio.
- Contact teachers to discuss student progress before each parent conference.
- Conducts monthly instructor meetings to assure adherence to instructional policies and procedures, as well as conduct mini-training sessions as needed.
- Administers skills assessments; analyzes testing results and completes summaries.
- Writes appropriate goals for students based on initial testing, administers progress tests, and writes progress reports.
- Proactively analyzes and conducts prescription quality reviews on an ongoing basis to ensure success of every student.
- Ensures that the Sylvan Store is well supplied and attractively displayed.
- Manages the instructional hour to assure formal welcome, instruction, and transition time.
- Demonstrates a positive rapport and genuine concern for students. Encourages student morale through recognition, rewards, transition time, contests, instructional program and center atmosphere.
- Prepare and deliver ongoing parent conferences. Administer and analyze ongoing progress tests. Write progress reports accurately.
- Creates and oversees motivational events for parents, students, and teachers.
- Assists Center Director with enforcing policies for billing and collections tracks student attendance, prepares daily & permanent schedules.
- Organizes and implements attendance procedures.
- Implements the Sylvan Systems as outlined in the QSM.
Job Requirements
- BA degree, teaching certificate and at least two years experience in education is required, as well as the ability to read and follow procedure manuals.
- Excellent verbal communication and persuasive skills and the ability to build relationships are also required.
- Management experience and strong computer skills preferred.
- Must be a leader, have the ability to delegate and problem solver.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
