Role Summary/Purpose
The Mechanical Analysis Lead Engineer / Technologist will perform in depth mechanical and thermal analysis on aerospace electrical generators and packaged electrical components to ensure that the design meet requirements. The engineer should have experience with finite element and thermal modeling software tools. The engineer will work in a team environment on multiple diverse projects, providing regular status to the project teams and upper management as required on assigned projects.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform finite element modeling, shaft natural frequency analysis, and thermal analysis of various rotating generator designs to meet performance requirements, which include weight, life, safety, reliability, and cost. Collaborate with other team members to iterate on design parameters resulting in an acceptable solution.
  • Perform structural and thermal modeling on packaged electronics designs to meet requirements. Provide vibration spectrum structural simulations and thermal modeling simulations to verify designs meet the performance requirements. Highlight areas of structural or thermal concerns to electrical engineers for alternate part selection or modified structural assembly or cooling. Recommend solutions for changes to meet the requirements, and also recommend solutions for minimizing weight and cost.
  • Document technical data generated in performing the design analysis, supporting the necessary project technical design reviews.
  • Support engineering development and qualification testing by developing test plans, provide input on sensor placement, review test setups prior to test, support conducting of tests, reviewing results for acceptability, and write test reports for customer or FAA approval submittal.
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • At least 4 years prior experience performing mechanical analysis using finite element structural software and thermal analysis software.

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    Desired Characteristics
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, MS desirable.
  • Experience in using finite element modeling software; Ansys. Experience with generating model meshes from models; Unigraphics.
  • Experience in using thermal analysis software; Ansys Icepak.
  • Experience in designing aerospace products.
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Able to work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Technical report writing skills.
  • Experience in design for manufacturability.
