Westinghouse Fast Facts:

Westinghouse technology is the basis for nearly 50 percent of the world's operating commercial nuclear power plants.

Our primary vision is to be the customers' choice to supply leading-edge nuclear technology to satisfy the world's growing demand for energy.

We strive to do this by:

  • Acting with integrity and respect for others
  • Being safe and environmentally responsible
  • Committing to achieving success for our customers

Westinghouse serves the needs of utility, government, and industrial customers in power-related industries through three distinct businesses: Nuclear Services, Nuclear Fuel, and Nuclear Power Plants.

Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms in a process called fission. At the power plant, the fission process is used to generate heat for producing steam, which is used by a turbine to generate electricity. Click here to see "How a Nuclear Plant Works"

The Westinghouse AP1000 is ready for global use. China will build four AP1000s, beginning in 2009. The AP1000 has also passed all the steps for compliance with European Utility Requirements. And, the AP1000 is the only Generation III+ plant to receive design certification my the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, with many US utilities already having selected the AP1000 as their technology of choice.
