Description

The Manager of Product Design, CRM Solutions is responsible for building a high performing product design team that analyzes, designs, and validates versions of The Raiser's Edge (RE), Blackbaud Enterprise CRM (BBEC), and ResearchPoint. The responsibilities include recruiting, developing, and retaining talented Interaction Designers and Usability Engineers; establishing design roles, responsibilities, and practices to increase the productivity of the team and the quality of the products; working effectively with other departments and providing the necessary processes and tools to remove organizational barriers; and assisting in the long term budgeting and planning of resources.


This position reports to the Director of Software Development, CRM Solutions in the Products division. In addition to the Manager of Product Design, the team consists of the BBEC Program Manager, the ResearchPoint Program Manager, the RE Program Manager, the QA Manager, and the Engineering Managers for Charleston and Cambridge. The person in this role will work collaboratively with the other managers on the team, other design managers, product managers, and other stakeholders in the organization to ensure that the teams are appropriately staffed to efficiently produce high quality products.


Responsibilities:


Recruit and hire interaction designers and usability engineers for the CRM Solutions design team. Work effectively with HR to identify the performance objectives for the open positions on your team and the characteristics of talented designers and usability engineers in order to appropriately interview and assess candidates.


Develop and retain the team to their full potential through training, coaching, and feedback. Continually improve the training material and feedback for new employees in order to ensure a successful transition onto the team. Work with individuals on the team to create training and learning opportunities and cultivate strengths and talents. Give constant performance feedback throughout the year and work to maintain high performance standards by correcting performance issues and re-casting individuals when necessary. Create team building activities and opportunities for recognition. Help create a link between the work of the team with the mission and values of the organization.


Continually improve the productivity of the team and quality of the product by evaluating and refining the team's roles, responsibilities, tools, processes, and practices. Establish goals for the team to create and use tools to help the team's efficiently. Identify and remove any bottlenecks or barriers for the team.


Assist in the long term planning and budgeting for the team and products. Help the team manage the requirements process; anticipate needs for more resources and personnel through forecasting and budgeting; manage team expenses; and help identify risk and create mitigation plans.


Serve as scrum master responsible for defining sprint schedule, facilitating task definition, monitoring daily progress of sprint, removing any impediments, facilitating the implementation of the scrum process, and ensuring that the team is working at full capacity.


 

Requirements

The Manager of Product Design must have a minimum of ten years experience in software development and 2+ years experience managing a design team. Experience creating commercial software products on a MS Windows platform is helpful as is experience working in or with non-profit organizations. Experience with Agile Software development processes including Scrum is desired. A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university is required and a master's degree is preferred.
