Serves as a leader in the development, training, and monitoring of nursing practice standards. Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises programs of orientation, inservice-training, workshops, and continuing education for a specific Patient Care Center (PCC) and/or service line. Takes a lead role in educational initiatives to ensure quality patient care and customer satisfaction. Acts as a resource and liaison to the VUMC community by serving on hospital wide committees or task forces. Represents Vanderbilt within the professional community. Performs a range of nursing, clinical, consultative, educational, and research activities within established area of clinical expertise.
This position requires a Master's degree, 24 months experience, and current TN RN license. Neuro and critical care experience preferred. Experience may be substituted for education: basic qualification requirement on a 2:1 basis (2 years of experience for each year of education required, but not attained) Additional Information:Magnet–Designated Vanderbilt Medical Center seeking a Neuroscience Nurse Educator. Day shift: Monday-Friday - 40hrs per week.Neurosurgical and neurological patients are cared for by extensively trained neuroscience nurses, respiratory, physical, occupational and speech therapist and nutritionists. This unit is one of the largest of its kind in the United States and the World. The team is dedicated to the care of Neuroscience patients. The medical team includes attending physicians, pharmacist, intensivist, and residents from Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery and Neurology, all collaborating in a strong collegial environment. We have a collaborative medical and nursing framework to provide consistent, quality healthcare. Our Neuroscience nurses have advanced educational and clinical experiences that contribute to Vanderbilt’s mission of optimal care for our patients. Our patients are treated with kindness and respect, and offered information services that promote healing and lead to healthier life styles. The NCU is part of the JCAHO-certified Vanderbilt Stroke Center, and strives to educate patients and families about the signs and symptoms of a stroke. We are dedicated to provide comprehensive care of the patient with cerebrovascular diseases using cutting-edge knowledge and technology. An extensive and individualized orientation program for the neuro unit is offered, with one on one preceptor’s that are dedicated to the new staff member. Feedback is provided frequently to enhance the orientation process. NCU has twenty four hour Anesthesia coverage with patient and nurse research involvement. There is also a dedicated Charge Nurse who serves as a resource and support person for nurses working at the bedside.
