The Consumer Experience Design team (CXD) is searching for passionate designers to help pull the company towards our inevitable future of highly connected, social experiences. Specifically, the Interaction Design Team collaborates closely with global telecom service providers and internal work partners to create compelling, usable and innovative mobile experiences for over 100 million worldwide users. We create seamless solutions that include multimedia, calling, connectivity, messaging and productivity applications.

Responsibilities/Expectations: The Principle Staff Design Researcher will apply skills in advanced, generative research methods to the design of physical and digital mobile device user interfaces. You will participate in collaborative projects as a member of a high-energy international team committed to developing innovative, usable, emotionally engaging products.

Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to design a product and/or works as part of a multidisciplinary team to further our basic research and understandings of users.
Performs human factors research: Defines studies Creates methods, refines methods; Conducts studies; analyzes data; writes reports with recommendations. Works with CXD, marketing and engineering product definition and design. Supports multiple products. Is a product lead.

Duties Responsibilities
Is able to identify potential usability issues.
Understands and acts on relevant usability issues. Decides on what to test and at what level to test, eg heuristic, informal or formal.

Works within Human Factors and Audio teams
Works within CXD
Works with marketing and engineering teams

Works on pieces of products as subject matter expert

Designs research – inventing new methods
Uses either existing research or creates research to answer novel questions.

Knowledge Skills:
  • A passion to develop great products
  • Minimum of 10 years experience designing, executing, and reporting advanced design research
  • Proven effectiveness in driving research results into tangible outcomes in products
  • Experience researching and designing both physical and digital product interaction
  • Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team with limited supervision
  • Strong ability to articulate and drive common understanding with cross-functional work partners and senior management
  • Experience in the development of UI simulations and/or automated data collection tools as required for research (strongly desired)
  • A graduate degree in a design research-related field: interaction design, psychology, human factors, etc.
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • * Masters degree
