Job Description
Primary Function: To set up and operate a group of metal cutting machines to perform a variety of machining operations on component pump parts, and to receive, store and disburse raw material in the steel storage area.

 Tools & Equipment: Key seaters, radial arm and spindle drills, precision rotary grinders, engine, handscrew, turret lathes, mills, shaft straightener, Power hacksaw, cut-off machine and accessories, overhead cranes, hoists, Forklift (in power saw area) and hand truck. Measuring instruments such as micrometers, rules, indicators, dial and vernier calipers, combination square, scales furnished by employee, precision gages, Misc. facing, turning and boring tools, mill cutters, drills, taps, reamers, etc., and appropriate hand tools. (standard wrenches and screwdrivers furnished by employee.)

 Materials: Ferrous and non-ferrous material in the form of castings, bar stock, pipe and structural shapes, pumps and component parts.

Source of Supervision:  Supervisor (Foreman)
 
Working Procedure:
1.      Receives work assignments, verbal and/or written instructions from supervision.
2.      Receives parts or material to be machined or sawed and obtain necessary tools and gages.
3.      Works from blueprints, bills-of-materials, process documents, written procedures, and verbal instructions.
4.      Check equipment for proper operation.
5.      Sets up and operates machines and tools using tools and equipment needed, selects proper operating settings.
6.      Receives and unloads material from trucks or outside storage areas, transport to storage area and stocks in racks, bins, etc. 
7.      Selects correct specification and size of material to be sawed or delivered to machines. Positions tools and parts in machines, securing and aligning as required, using hoists and cranes as required.
8.      Checks material to be sawed to determine color code or identification mark, paint color code or otherwise identify as required, disburse material upon written request and makes daily log as directed.
9.      Performs a variety of machining operations on an assortment of component parts. This includes face, bore, turn, ream , thread, drill, tap, keyway, mill, saw, grind, chamfer, spot-face, assemble etc. Saws materials to length.
10.   Checks parts with measuring instruments as required.
11.   Performs necessary material handling throughout the sequence of operations.
12.   File burrs and stamp identification on parts as directed.
13.   Prepares production card and turns into supervision daily.
14.   Lubricates machines as required, wipes and keeps machines, tools, and workplace clean, and removes chips from machines.
15.   Reports defective material and equipment to supervision.
16.   Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, material, and equipment in proper places.
17.   Observes all safety rules and watches for safety of others.
18.  Occasionally works in the classifications of Utility Worker Job code 200 and Deburring Operator code206 as directed.
