The Accounting Supervisor supervises employees and functions of an accounting-related department or operation. (Accounting related functions might include one of or several of the following: accounts payable, account receivable, payroll, order scheduling, credit, and/or other general office functions.) Oversees the classification and recording of routine accounting transactions. Provides guidance and direction on the more complex transactions and issues. Complies, or supervises the compiling of data, and prepares standard reports as required. Supervises the preparation of special analyses of the functional areas as required. Responsible for the accuracy and proper accounting/recording of data within the assigned functions. Assign work, set priorities, conducts performance reviews, and makes salary recommendations for employees supervised. Responsibilities Include: - Accounts receivable functionality knowledge in the area of reconciliation and negotiations.
- Presenting data to upper management with reports and summaries.
- Advanced skill and knowledge level of Excel, Access and SAP
- Typically supervises a singular accounting functions and manages the day-to-day activities of the function. Supervisor provides direction. Work is structured, and tasks are reviewed for accuracy and conformance to procedures along with instructions. The work includes a variety of different tasks. These tasks are based on established procedures, normally within one work group or department. Guidance is generally available for most activities. The work that needs to be done varies in response to requests as well as a variety of regular activities requiring prioritizing and scheduling of activities. Position supervises administrative-support employees in an accounting functional area.
- Significant contact and contact to location top management. Periodically assists supervisor or others in changing existing work procedures or designing new work procedures affecting other people beyond this immediate job. Interacts when required by job activities, with people inside and/or outside the company. Information exchanged may range from factual data to information requiring explanation of delays or decisions requiring some tact or persuasive skill. Demonstrate a commitment to OfficeMax Total Quality and the process of continuous improvements identifies and responds actively and with sensitivity to the needs of all customers, and is open and responsive to change.
- The complex problems encountered at this level may have confusingly interrelated parts or may be difficult to understand, explain, or solve. Analysis of data involves defining problems, working with incomplete data, and interpreting information where the outcomes are not obvious. Techniques are used, which require thorough knowledge of the field of work. Supervises an accounting staff of administrative support employees. A set job expectations and is accountable for results. Conducts personnel actions, including hiring, salary actions, and terminations.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting is desirable but not mandatory.
- A thorough working knowledge of assigned functional areas is required.
- May require knowledge of accounting applications in a data processing environment.
- Typically requires specialized on-the-job training and/or experience of a minimum of five years in a specific discipline or functional area.
- Requires office related experience and demonstrated leadership organization and planning skills.
