ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL - EMPLOYMENT AND COMPLIANCE

SUMMARY:  Provide legal and strategic direction in the areas of Employment and Compliance. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
    • Implement and administer the Ethics and Compliance Program to address specific risk exposures related to applicable regulations, rating agency standards, and APAC strategic imperatives
    • Develop procedures to support administration of the Ethics and Compliance Program; position requires reaction to developments in the regulatory and governance environment with focus on compliance training and education
    • Facilitate risk and compliance coordination with other departments including the legal department, internal audit, and support services
    • Ensure compliance oversight processes are aligned with business strategies, operations and processes and that identified gaps or weaknesses are escalated to senior management
    • Review, advise and recommend action regarding employment policies and practices, advise management and HR team on employment matters, emerging policy issues and applicable law
    • Handle or assist with defense of employment-related claims at agency and judicial level
    • Manage and coordinate with outside counsel in handling employment-related litigation
    • Assist and/or coordinate internal investigations and other employment and compliance related matters
    • Draft employment agreements, offer letters and separation agreements
    • Assist with immigration matters and managing outside counsel with respect to immigration matters 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education:  Bachelor�s degree and Juris Doctor required.
 
Experience:  7-9 years' experience handling employment and compliance matters at a large or midsize firm, or equivalent experience working as in-house counsel.
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:  Intelligence, business judgment and the ability to understand and respond to business issues and needs.  Strong writing, communication and research skills with ability to research legal issues and recommend solutions and strategies.  Ability to execute and manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.  Strong interpersonal skills.  High level of drive and enthusiasm with a strong work ethic.  Must possess unquestioned integrity, honesty and business ethics.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.   Prior responsibility for managing and developing staff is a plus.
