Job Description

Human Genome Sciences (HGS) is a biopharmaceutical company with approximately 800 employees and world-class R&D and manufacturing facilities based in Rockville, MD. We have three promising products in late-stage development – one, raxibacumab, already commercialized with sales to the U.S, Government and two moving toward commercialization. BENLYSTA™ (formerly LymphoStat-B®) has successfully met its primary endpoint in the first of two Phase 3 trials in systemic lupus, and we expect to have results of the second BENLYSTA Phase 3 trial in November 2009. ZALBIN™ (formerly Albuferon®) has completed Phase 3 development in chronic hepatitis C, and we expect the submission of global marketing applications in fall 2009. We are developing both of these products in collaboration with world leaders in the pharmaceutical industry. Further, in July 2009, we secured a new purchase order for 45,000 doses of raxibacumab, a drug to combat inhalational anthrax, to be delivered to the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile over a three-year period. HGS is an Equal Opportunity Employer EOE/AA M/F/D/V Please visit www.hgsi.com for further information on our company and to apply on-line for this position.  Would you like to be part of a biotech company that is transitioning from late stage development to commercialization?  Are you ready to partner with manufacturing operations and the finance team to establish effective cost accounting systems and processes?  Do you enjoy setting the vision and using your skills and experience to work with others to implement it?Human Genome Sciences is actively recruiting an experienced, savvy Planning & Cost Accounting manager to ready our recently implemented SAP Product Costing Module as we prepare to launch our first marketed therapeutics and continue to engage in contract manufacturing organization (CMO) activities.  In this position, you will be responsible for all facets of cost accounting for biologics manufacturing including handling monthly closing activities, developing and maintaining standards for a multiplant and multiproduct line, supporting manufacturing activities and supporting ongoing business initiatives including sitting on project teams. Primary duties include:- Play integral role in assessing current state and developing plan to meet future business objectives and  operationalizing SAP’s cost accounting module- Development of current and standard costs, including labor and overhead rates, analysis of purchase price and other variances- Work with Planning to create multi-level bill of materials, updating standard costs, and preparing month-end journal entries for manufacturing and inventory areas- Support production, marketing or finance as needed- Various general ledger responsibilities on either an ongoing or ad hoc basis


Job Requirements

- B.S. in Accounting, minimum five to seven years of accounting experience, with a minimum of three years of hands-on cost accounting responsibilities in a commercial manufacturing environment.  Supervisory experience a significant plus.- Strong system skills-- SAP strongly preferred, MRP and accounting system proficiency, enterprise-wide financial systems, query or other data extraction or manipulation tools- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team, interact with all levels of management, and manage multiple priorities on a day-to-day basis.
