Description Reporter I
The Hattiesburg American has an
opening for a reporter
position to cover law
enforcement and the courts. Work week:
Generally, Monday through Friday with
occasional weekend shifts Job description: This position is
responsible for covering law enforcement and fire department activity in the Pine Belt, including
covering breaking crime/fire news around the clock. The position is also responsible for
covering county, state and federal courts,
including tracking civil and criminal cases and grand jury reports.
The reporter in this
position is required to produce enterprise
stories from the beat and other duties as assigned by editor. Experience:
At least one year of reporting experience, including internships and college newspaper staff experience.
Qualifications:
Strong writing/reporting skills
Computer skills and experience shooting and editing video required.
Experience with social media a plus.
Ability to handle deadline pressure.
Education
