Director of Marketing and New Business Development
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of Marketing and New Business Development is responsible for the marketing direction and growth strategies within the organization. The Director will design, develop and deliver comprehensive programs targeting assigned market segments with the objective of driving new customer expansion and existing customer penetration. Key position metrics center on achievement of assigned market sales plan and timely introduction of new products and training deliverables.
Functional scope: Responsibility includes North America and the support of groups within the organization. This division is the primary vehicle for the organization’s roof drainage offering, including metal trim products for the professional and DIY markets. Market can range from $200 - $300 million.
Key responsibilities include the following: - Manages multiple products flowing into multiple market segments to meet the needs of targeted businesses across the enterprise. Determines market strategies and manages the marketing programs for those products.
- Develops and executes long range and competitive strategy for the product(s) and systems.
- Prepares annual marketing plan and sales forecasts.
- Gathers and communicates competitive intelligence to develop market strategies.
- Identifies and analyzes current market trends and potentials, evaluating impact on company’s market position, development of existing customer base and leverages evolving market conditions to gain customer expansion.
- Builds strategic partnerships with Pricing, Operations, Product Management and Sales in order to alter strategy or policy or invest appropriate resources to support market initiatives and serve the best interest of the Company.
- Develops and recommends marketing objectives, including sales volume and profit forecasts for assigned product or products.
- In cooperation with Sales, prepares sales forecasts for use in planning manufacturing operations and for controlling inventories.
- Stimulates support of the product among the sales group and distributor network.
- Develops positioning, copy, and programs.
- Leads the design, development and delivery of various market specific customer and field facing collateral material.
- Supports all market segment needs with category management.
- Initiates product improvements and changes to meeting changing market needs.
- Gathers continuous intelligence on products' performance, competition, distributor and end user attitudes, new problems and opportunities.
- Develops methods for field testing manufacturing programs to determine public acceptance; evaluates the effectiveness of promotional and advertising programs; recommends improvements or changes.
- Recommends product changes, improvements, or deletions.
- Directs market development, sales promotion, and distribution policies.
- Participates in the preparation of product advertising and oversees market research activities. Develops and suggests ideas for new products, as appropriate.
- Initiates a lean philosophy by identifying process improvements and managing Company resources.
- Position requires frequent travel up to a maximum 60% of total time
Job Requirements: 8 to 10 years marketing experience required or 5-7 years of direct marketing experience and 5-7 years of related business experience required with a history of product/applications market introductions. Proven track record in strategic marketing management – strong conceptual skills. Progressively responsible marketing roles with proven leadership abilities. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required. Strategic planning and project planning skills required. Proven technical, analytical and creative competency required. Strong technical product knowledge preferred. Broad business knowledge required. Experience designing and conducting customer interview/survey projects Proven ability to analyze markets and competitive trends Strong leadership and influencing skills necessary; experience supervising management personnel required Experience working with executive personnel desirable Must develop the skills and knowledge of other members in the Sales and Marketing department to promote a continuous learning environment. Demonstrated initiative, superior project management skills and the ability to undertake a multitude of complex projects with minimal supervision. Ability to operate with high sense of urgency and personal initiative, and respond to multiple deadlines while maintaining good coordination and communication with colleagues and staff. Passionate commitment to quality, follow through and high attention to detail. Educational requirements: 4 year degree in Marketing or Business required.Masters degree in related field strongly preferred.
