Job Description
The Pediatric Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients. He/she demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in providing primary, secondary, and/or tertiary healthcare in the outpatient, inpatient or community setting. NP educates patients and their families in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health and intervene in acute or chronic illness. The NP develops criteria for and participates in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of care.
NP will provide care autonomously to a caseload of patients, functioning interdependently with physicians in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner-Physician Written Practice Agreement required and approved by the Department of Nursing and Medical Board. The Pediatric Cardiology Nurse Practitioner is granted privileges by the Hospital Medical Board; these privileges list specific delegated medical activities and are reviewed annually for renewal. Additionally, NP will be expected to plug into a growing catheter lab program within the division, considerable responsibilities both pre and post-cath that will relieve the faculty physicians to perform other revenue generating activities. This will also involve assistance with interventional cardiology procedures.
The NP plans and participates in learning opportunities for nursing and medical students, and works with administrative, nursing, physician and university faculty to assure quality patient care. The NP is accountable to the manager in the clinical setting for organization and management of the clinical practice.
Qualifications
- Licensed in State of Wisconsin.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing; Master's Degree in Nursing with specialty preparation as a nurse practitioner.
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certified or eligible; if not certified, expectation is that it is completed within 1 year.
- Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and management of acute and chronic patient/family health problems.
- Two years of relevant clinical experience.
- Certificate as an advanced practice nurse prescriber.
Schedule
This is a full time position working Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Flexibility in hours is anticipated and expected in order to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
