Job Summary:
The specialist is involved in multidisciplinary collaboration as a medical resource to the claims operations.  The primary objective of this position is to assess, monitor and coordinate clinical services for disability claims.  The focus is utilization of available resources to facilitate the claimant in reaching maximum medical improvement and/or return to work outcomes.
 
Job Responsibilities:
1.  Obtain all pertinent medical information from file review and communication with health care providers.
2.  Assess and evaluate available medical information and identify appropriate restrictions/limitations based on that information and recommend next action steps and timelines.
3.  Coordinate and monitor claims to establish goals and implement an action plan that will assist in return to work and/or reaching maximum medical improvement. 
4.  Evaluate action plan and revise as necessary.
5.  Plan and recommend appropriate referrals to other departments such as Vocational Services or consultant physician review.  Plan and recommend appropriate referrals to outside specialties including independent medical examinations, peer review and functional capacity evaluation.
6.  Other activities such as data entry, team meetings, continuing education, auditing, special projects and marketing meetings.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse required.   Must comply with all regulations to keep license current including all continuing education.  BA, BSN, AA degree in nursing.   CCM designation preferred or specialty designations such as occupational health nursing.  
  • Broad background in general professional nursing with at least 5 years clinical experience with 2 years of inpatient care experience or equivalent.  Prefer experience in utilization review, case management, worker's compensation or insurance claims adjudication.
  • Good organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, investigative and analytical skills.
  • Proficient typing and computer skills.
  • Ability to make timely decisions based on clinical expertise and judgement.
