Primary responsibility is the coding (concurrent & retrospective) and abstracting of diagnoses and procedures on all inpatient records into the Meditech system. Also back up to coding of observation, outpatient surgeries, ER and clinic records. Uses the 3M Coding and Reimbursement system, to assist in assigning codes. Other responsibilities includes, working the PHIIP Program and BILL49 on a daily basis.
Education: High school graduate. Experience: Two years experience in an acute care hospital environment. Proficient ICD-9-CM and CPT coding. This position requires extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Computer experience required. Experience with Meditech abstracting and 3M encoding preferred. Must be able to work independently with little supervision. Must be willing to keep up to date with changing rules and regulations by various payer sources through continuous personal education, resources provided by SCH and corporate coding department.
