Position Summary:
The IT/IS Project Manager will have responsibility for managing a portfolio of technical software projects from definition to deployment ensuring goals and deadlines are successfully met and that stakeholders are satisfied. The position requires an individual with a strong understand of both business and software requirements. This project manager will be expected to think critically and be able to recommend ideas and strategies to adhere to software best practices, clear project blocking issues & to mitigate project risk. This person should have a successful background in project management, and proven record of successful project delivery and execution within the discipline of information technology. This position will be covering new territory for this department and candidates must be highly motivated with the ability to produce tangible results rapidly using Project Management best practices.


Responsibilities:
  • Recommends to management where a proposed project fits within the department or organizations strategic goals.
  • Devise and implement project lifecycle strategy for department.
  • Create and organize documents and artifacts to be used to manage each phase of software projects.
  • Assist project stakeholders in defining project requirements.
  • Negotiate with project stakeholders to determine a project scope that is acceptable to IT and the business.
  • Identify project milestones for management.
  • Identify project deliverables for management.
  • Resolve project tasks / issues that are in jeopardy.
  • Resolve project budget problems.
  • Create & implement risk mitigation strategy for each project.
  • Create & implement change management strategy for each project.
  • Guide functional managers in project strategy.
  • Create reports that measure all IT projects and resources against those metrics.
  • Perform detailed cost/benefit analysis for middle and upper management on proposed projects.
  • Create business case documentation and presentations for proposed projects.
  • Interface with project managers, directors & VPs from other business functions to ensure proper IT engagement in inter-departmental initiatives.
  • Present to and update upper management on project status.
  • Use project management standards, methods, and process to improve the delivery success of new projects and products. Define benchmarks and schedules for System Development projects based on analysis and direction from Sr. Management.
  • Participates in all stages of the software development lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, design, development, test, implementation, and post production support.
  • Maintain up-to-date project reporting and variances for senior management (scope, schedule, budget, etc). This includes formal briefings, project coordination meetings, written and graphic reports.
  • Maintain oversight and responsibility of multiple projects concurrently.
  • Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance. 

  • Job Requirements 

    Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. Commensurate applicable experience will also be considered.
  • PMP Certification preferred.
  • 5+ years direct IT Project Management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with progressively more challenging and complex corporate IT projects while working progressively more independently.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of/experience implementing/using Project Management Institute framework.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and experience applying technology best practices to complex business problems.
  • Can demonstrate strong business acumen.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

    Additional Desired Skills/Experience:
  • Telecommunications industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with application platform migrations preferred.
  • Experience with large scale billing, provision systems preferred.
  • Strong PC skills including MS Excel, MS Project, and other MS Office software
  • Experience in Clarity preferred.
