The Nursing Education Specialist position is a full time exempt position with fulltime benefits within the Nursing Development and Research dept. It will be located at the Henry Ford Corporate office on One Ford Place in downtown Detroit. We seek candidates with a MSN degree, 5 years nursing experience, three years of GPU experience and teaching experience as nurse educator or academic instructor. Graduate nurses are not eligible for this position. JOB SUMMARY: Advanced practice nurse position that provides leadership and works in partnership with nursing, the health care team, and system leaders to develop a quality practice setting that supports professional nursing practice and quality patient care. EDUCATION/LICENSURE: Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program is required, or currently pursuing a MSN. A current Michigan RN license is required. EXPERIENCE/KNOW HOW: Candidates must have 5 years of clinical nursing experience and two years teaching experience in a university, college, and/or hospital/health care institution. Competence in curriculum or program design, development, and evaluation is necessary. Effective interpersonal skills, problem solving, presentation skills, and organizational skills. Possess broad knowledge of health care systems, trends, and the care continuum. Considerable computer skills are necessary. Knowledge of Microsoft programs. Work is divided between normal office, classroom, labs, and patient care environment. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: *Functions as an expert resource and consultant to management and staff on nursing, education, and professional practice.*Works collaboratively and provides leadership to nurses and multidisciplinary teams to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of care delivery systems. Develops and refines project objectives and work plans, guide activities of project teams, facilitating and/or leading teams, providing periodic updates to administration, preparing reports, and coordinating/providing verbal and written presentations. *Designs and implements program evaluation, methods to elicit results useful in development of new programs or revision of current programs. Analyses data for future comparisons and improvements.*Acts as a facilitator and coach, working with colleagues in nursing and other disciplines to promote team building, positive change and the fulfillment of organizational objectives and mission. *Identifies educational development needs of Henry Ford Health Systems Nursing and Patient Care Services using formal and informal assessment methods. *Designs educational structures, programs, courses, and tools that prepare and support the RN and unlicensed assistive personnel to meet standards of care for the organization. Utilizes current research and evidenced based practice in the design/development, and adapts/revises to address changes in health care and regulatory requirements. *Plans and implements core and specialty programs and/or resources that supports professional nursing practices such as orientation, preceptorship, continuing education activities and competencies using adult learning principles.
