Our growing Cortland Cable business unit is adding a Fiber Rope and Cable Design/Application Engineer position to the team.  This role includes, but is not limited to, the following;

  • Become expert in the areas of fiber technology, strength member constructions, manufacturing capabilities, terminations and splicing.
  • Interface with customers and end users to understand their specific application in order to recommend the best product solution available.
  • Liaison with manufacturing and quality to ensure those solutions are incorporated into our products.
  • Learn current costing methods in order to prepare accurate customer quotations promptly and consistently.
  • Attend trade shows and industry related technical organizations in accordance with executive directives
  • Establish a more dependable method for retrieving product data and customer quoting and ordering history. This is a long range goal.
  • Perform additional duties as required by executive management


Job Requirements

  • BS Engineering, preferably in Textiles, Mechanical, Chemical or Plastics Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years product design experience.  Engineered fiber or rope products experience highly desired.
  • Must possess and apply a comprehensive knowledge of engineering concepts, practices and procedures to the completion of complex assignments.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% to customer facilities.
  • Demonstrated creative ability and good business and engineering decision-making skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to interface with all levels of personnel.
  • Stays current in the status of competitive products that may affect the company’s competitive position, evaluates those products, and provides analysis as necessary.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned by management.
