DENSO is establishing a North American Purchasing organization with a Northern center located at DMMI and a Southern center located at DMTN. The Northern Center is in need of Advanced Buyers. These positions will have strategic responsibilities for select commodities spanning all North American locations as well as some tactical responsibilities for plants within the Thermal Americas Center. Commodities assigned to the Northern center include packaging (both corrugate & returnable), logistics, warehousing, sub-materials, general suppliers, certain capital equipment, and services. For each assigned commodity, the successful candidate will consolidate information from across North American plants to develop sourcing strategies which fully support business needs in terms of quality, service, delivery, & cost. Additionally, the successful candidate will: Use developed strategies to consolidate the MRO supply base in assigned commodities by focusing the spend on the most capable suppliers. Develop long-term relationships with key suppliers such that both DENSO and the supplier achieve great benefit from the relationship. Lead the process of investigating possible suppliers for a commodity. Request and review proposals from suppliers for goods and services within assigned commodities. Negotiate to achieve optimal pricing based on accumulated knowledge, current market conditions, and analysis of supplier proposals. Resolve tactical issues as they arise (e.g. issues related to delivery, invoices, payment, etc.). Develop, implement, and track cost reduction plans.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (MUST meet minimum qualifications to be considered)
Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing, MLM, ISM, Engineering Arts, Business or related field.
Must be skilled in negotiations, strategy, planning, and preparation. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, duties, and tasks concurrently. Able to develop effective relationships across functional areas and multiple plant locations. Basic ability to read and understand commercial contracts. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Access. Travel up to 20%. Minimum of five years of direct or indirect sourcing experience.
