Job Description:

Leads network projects by recommending solutions to network strategy and security issues, as well as providing network-engineering solutions/options for the organization by performing the following duties:

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops detailed network specifications and adheres to standards in support of new project scope work.
  • Develops and recommends strategies for network growth, security, and enhancements by maximizing functionality of network equipment such as routers, bridges, gateways, switches, concentrators, and hubs.
  • Interfaces with vendors and suppliers to ensure adequate delivery and maintenance of equipment and services.
  • Performs network analysis and capacity planning and testing for organization's LAN/WAN environment.
  • Assists in the creation of processes and procedures for network operations.
  • Maintains library of associated materials for all equipment, processes, and procedures.
  • Designs, installs, and tests network topologies to support Internet and other data transport channels.
  • Supports installation and maintenance of PC/Server hardware and software.
  • Designs, installs and troubleshoots IP based LANs/Was/MANs and IP- based routing and bridging solutions.
  • Performs routine and emergency maintenance of all data center equipment.
  • Provides network performance monitoring and analysis.
  • Analyzes and evaluates LAN/WAN changes, additions and reconfigurations.
  • Contributes to development and administration of network backup and recovery plan to maintain LAN/WAN network systems operation.
  • Identifies and corrects faults and provides resolution of complex problem tickets escalated from the help desk.
  • Designs, specifies, configures, installs, and maintains local area network hardware, software, and telecommunications services such as personal computers, system software, software applications, printers, servers, routers, bridges, switches, modems, cabling, and Internet service providers.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures related to network hardware and software acquisition, use, support, security, and backup.
  • Establishes and maintains network users, user environment, directories, and security.
  • Trains users on software and equipment usage.
  • Responds to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to resources on the network and the operation of various software programs.
  • Develops and communicates standards for use, operations, and security of network, personal computers, and data.
  • Communicates with other departments to report and resolve software, hardware, and operations problems.
  • Consults with department managers to develop system solutions consistent with organizational objectives.
  • Researches and evaluates new technologies.
  • Negotiates contracts with and coordinates activities of hardware, software, telecommunications, support, and training vendors.
  • Installs and tests software upgrades.
  • Develops and implements disaster recovery procedures.

 

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Development software; Design software; Internet software; Project Management software and Database software.

 

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
MCSE; CCNA; JNCIA; or equivalent experience

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Excellent communication skills with external and internal customers.
  2. Must be committed to providing exceptional customer service (both external and internal) at all times.
