Description
Position Accountability:
 
Assists Director of Accounting- Corporate & Homebuilding in managing the accounting function to include executing external and internal reporting activities for management, parent company, and third parties.  Position is responsible for the integrity of financial information and interpretation of accounting principles and theory.   Plans and directs day to day activities of corporate and homebuilding accounting staff.
 
Position Responsibilities:
 
Management & Administrative Duties:
  • Leadership, development and coaching of accounting staff  as follows:
  • Senior Accountant
  • Staff Accountant
  • Accounting Specialists
  • Includes annual goal and IDP (individual development plan) preparation and updates for self and staff
  • Participates in monthly Accounting Department Managers meeting and actively participates in department activities and projects to include climate survey,  planning of department employee relations events, training etc.
  • Works closely with Accounting Manager A/P to allocate department resources to meet peak needs and achieve department objectives
 
Financial Reporting:
  • Monthly and Quarterly reporting to parent company-Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company
  • Coordinates mechanics of month end FLASH/close process per parent company requirements
  • Oversees review and posting of financial reports to company intranet site
 
Functional Accounting Responsibilities:
 
Payroll:
  • Manages payroll function performed by Accounting Specialist and works directly with Director of Accounting Corp & HB,Winchester Homes Human Resources Department, and Weyerhaeuser Employee Service Center on payroll related issues.
  • Oversees monthly processing of commission and bonuses for field and office personnel
  • Reviews monthly payroll reports and journal entry for proper coding, charges, appropriate hours, overtime, etc.
  • Analyzes and adjust payroll loading rates as required
  • Month-end/FLASH:
    • Manages/prepares interest allocations
    • Runs month-end programs and manages report distribution to accounting Managers and Directors
    • Reviews preliminary general ledger reports -  ranges of accounts as assigned
    • Reviews and ties-out monthly charges and allocations from parent company
    • Prepares and reviews journal entries (E-One and Hyperion)
    • Ensures entry of non-financial information into Hyperion (avg sales price, headcount, customer survey etc)
    • Reviews E-One and Hyperion financial statements prior to month end close
Budgeting:
  • Prepares G&A and additional overhead projections for FAP (Firm Annual Plan) and Updates to include detailed salary and payroll projections
  • Prepares Homebuilding portion of FAP and Updates under direction of Director of Accounting-Corp & HB
  • Consolidation and tie-out of  HB, Land and Corporate Firm Annual Plan (FAP) files and upload to Hyperion semi-annually
General and Tax Accounting:
  • General and Administrative (G&A) and overhead accounting to include actual to budget variance review with appropriate managers, lease payments, expense reports, fielding travel questions, and  management of corporate travel and credit cards
  • Homebuilding transactional accounting to include recording settlement vouchers, model complex amortization, review of unit inventory accounts etc
  • Model Complex and furnishings accounting to include quarterly meetings with responsible Director or Vice President to review model complex budgets, prepare revisions, ensure new budgets are entered into system timely etc.
  • Performs General ledger maintenance (E-One and Hyperion)
  • Oversees Fixed Asset Accounting to include periodic inventory validation
  • Cash responsibilities to include oversight of banking, wires, manual, computer and field check preparation and cash receipts
  • Reviews and approves account reconciliations prepared by direct reports; Prepares select confidential or complex account reconciliations
  • Oversees preparation of personal property taxes, unclaimed property reports, business tax reports.
  • Attends monthly and quarterly functional dept. financial review meetings with Director of Accounting-Corp & HB, prepares schedules as required and performs follow-up research as needed. Accounting Manager will lead meetings on a periodic basis.
  • Accountable for integrity of database functions performed by Accounting Specialist-Database Coordinator
 
Internal Controls:
  • Monitors staff compliance with policies to include journal entry, account reconciliation policies, controls over data entry,budgets etc.
  • Assists in implementation and monitoring of Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  • Assists Director of Accounting- Corporate & Homebuilding with internal and external audits
 Other:
  • Special projects for parent company and internal customers as needed
  • Participates on company cross-functional team initiatives as needed
  • Performs other Accounting duties as assigned by Director of Accounting-Corporate & Homebuilding
Requirements
Requirements:
  • Minimum  B.S. Degree  in Accounting (or Finance if sufficient Accounting credits have been earned)
  • CPA preferred
 Job skills:
  • Excellent communication/customer relations skills
  • Strong planning, organization, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision and meet deadlines
  • Coaching and management of employees
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial statement and internal controls
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Position requires overtime at key periods to include FAP and Updates budget preparation, month end/year end close etc.
Experience:
  • Demonstrated Accounting and financial experience at equivalent  level of responsibility as described above
  • Minimum 7 years Accounting experience at the professional level
  • Experience managing professional and administrative staff
  • Homebuilding experience preferred but not required
