Description

The Iowa Immigration Education Coalition is seeking a part-time (24 hours/week) program coordinator.  Our organization is a multi-perspective group of business, labor, civil rights, religious, immigrant, education, social service, government, and other community leaders united to provide Iowans with relevant and timely information about immigration issues and their impact on Iowans and their communities.

 

Our mission is to educate Iowans about immigrants and inform the development of common-sense immigration policies that enhance Iowa’s economy and quality of life, preserve families, and affirm the dignity of immigrants. The purpose of the Iowa Immigration Education Coalition is simple, to use a fact-based approach to educate the public, community leaders, and Iowa's policymakers about the value of immigrants and immigration to Iowa and the U.S. and the need for public policies which best represent everyone’s interests and enhance Iowa’s welcoming tradition.  For more information on our organization, visit our website at www.iowaimmigrationeducation.org.

 

Project Coordinator Position Summary:  The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years administrative experience, preferably in a complex and fast-paced environment preferably non-profit or active community services. Will demonstrate highly developed oral and written communication skills, in an environment requiring diplomacy and the ability to exercise good judgment. Proven track record establishing priorities, taking initiative, and maintaining a positive and professional demeanor at all times. Demonstrated effectiveness meeting deadlines in a role requiring continual attention to detail in responding to information and data requests promptly, composing, typing and proofing materials. The successful candidate will provide effective professional leadership for the Iowa Immigration Education Coalition including oversight of and support to committees and volunteers while assisting the executive committee in the general management of the organization.

 


Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the work and programs of the Iowa Immigration Education Coalition.   Provide oversight of Vista workers, volunteers and other staff.  Support the Education Committee in the development and implementation of educational activities across the state.  Assist the Outreach Committee in building the organizational and individual membership base of the Coalition.
  2. Provide oversight and support for all organizational communications including the IIEC website, and the monthly e-newsletter.   Create, prepare and update informational and presentation materials for IIEC, including promotional materials, website information, articles and other publications.  Present educational information to the general community at large.
  3. Provide staff support to the Steering Committee for the general management of the organization.
  4. Provide staff support to the Fundraising Committee (e.g. assist in writing general fundraising letters; assist in identifying and writing grant proposals).
  5. Build relationships and work collaboratively with member and alliance organizations.
  6. Assist with other duties as is needed.
  Qualifications
  1. A minimum of three years professional experience in non-profit administrative or community organization working on program development and implementation.
  2. A strong commitment to the general purpose and work of the Iowa Immigration Education Coalition.
  3. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, relationship building, management influencing skills, conflict resolution and facilitation skills required.
  4. Excellent written and verbal English skills required. The applicant must be able to develop written materials with little assistance, and to communicate clearly and concisely on behalf of the Coalition.
  5. Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and within a team, and have strong organizational and time management skills. 
  6. Willingness and ability to travel occasionally throughout Iowa and work flexible hours as needed.
  7. Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adaptable to change and to work under pressure with diverse cultural groups.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet applications required.
  9. Group presentation skills desirable.

 This is a 24 hour-per-week, salaried position. The salary is competitive and commensurate with the candidate’s level of relevant experience.  The office location is close to downtown in Des Moines, Iowa.
