Full-Time Faculty – Game Art and Design
The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago is currently seeking a full-time instructor for its Game Art and Design department. Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning in the course competencies in the curriculum and proactively support all facets of the learning environment. Provide career education through learner-centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolving needs of the marketplace. Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility, life-long learning, diversity, and ethics as well as personal and professional development.
Key Job Elements:
· Provides competency-based education which aligns with the EDMC model of curricula as well as supports the EDMC style of system delivery.
· Designs and delivers class instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course competencies, the development of activities which support lesson objectives, and (in the case of online instructors ONLY) delivers the instruction as approved.
· Enables the achievement of pre-described exit competencies for student achievement and evaluation of learning by providing instruction which fosters competencies and establish student performance criteria and evaluation.
· Delivers learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success.
· Promotes student success by showing flexibility in style and work schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching and students and engaging students in the learning process.
· Manages the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies.
· Contributes to a learning culture by participating on curriculum and system task forces, supporting local campus events such as orientation and graduation, and participating in various other workshops and meetings.
· Relates professional/life/industry experience to learning by the continuation of professional/technical skills development, the introduction of industry perspective into courses, and the active awareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities.
Requirements
Position Requirements:
Master’s Degree including 18 semester hours of graduate course work in this teaching discipline is required, as is at least 5 years industry experience and college-level teaching experience. Industry proficiency relevant to Game Art and/or Visual & Game Programming skills as well as concrete knowledge of industry expectations is required. Candidates must have knowledge of game engines such as Unity or Unreal Tournament and Maya and Flash software.
Candidates should be prepared to present copies of transcripts, portfolio of professional work (if applicable) and samples of student work if invited for an interview. Please do not send any of these materials with initial resume.
Courses taught may include:
Introduction to Game Development--an introductory overview of the electronic game development process and the historical context, content creation strategies, and future trends in the industry. The course will also explain how games are produced, tested and released.
Scriptwriting & Storytelling for Games--Students learn the fundamentals of scriptwriting: setting the scene, dialogue, and character and camera movement, and apply them to the construction of an interactive game story.
Game Prototyping where students create and produce a game prototype demonstrating game design principles acquired in preceding courses. The culmination of course work results in students fine tuning their design, production and collecting skills as well as scripting and storyboarding.
Programming for the Artist--This course is an introduction to computer programming from the game design artist's point of view. Students learn the basic foundation for programming and designing games.
Level Design--student learns to create 2-D maps, design level elements and how to add structures, objects and create balanced game play through combining these disciplines. Students learn to use their own designs as well as pre-created level editors working as a member of a team in a collaborative effort.
