Women's Center, Labor Delivery Nurse Manager.  We are looking for a motivated manager for our Women’s Services Department.  Our Relationship Based Care model has helped us maintain high patient and staff satisfaction scores.  We are the premier location for high risk perinatal services in the region.  Our busy department handled nearly 1,500 births last year and our new mom’s “highly recommend" our hospital to their friends.  And we have 62% fewer Obstetric Complications for Mom’s and Babies then the National Average. POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Manager provides direction and oversight to a specific unit within the medical center.  The Manager is responsible for effectively managing the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and well being of all patients in the assigned department on a 24 hour, 7 days/week basis.  The Manager is responsible for meeting the strategic initiatives that highlight the "Five Pillars of Success" (Growth, Service, People, Quality, and Financial).  The Manager espouses the mission, values and ethics of the corporation, hospital and nursing department and serves as a professional role model.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

SERVICE

The Manager supports the vision of growth opportunities for the assigned unit and is accountable in the support and implementation of "Strategic Initiatives" set forth on the unit.

Provides direct patient care per need of the unit.

Fosters positive environment and ensures effective communication flows between all necessary parties involved in the continuum of care.  Follows the established chain of command.

Implements customer satisfaction strategies (employees, physicians, patients and families) to meet defined goals as defined in the "Strategic Initiatives".

Conducts department and patient rounds with reason.

Adheres to the Hospital's Safety Policies and demonstrates safe practices in patient care.

 

QUALITY

Actively participates in hospital wide and departmental committees.

In concert with the unit vision and goals, the Manager oversees day-to-day operations as well as provides administrative call. 

Implements quality improvement activities for assigned unit and ensures completion.

Implement processes designed to reduce risk and create a safe environment within the unit and medical center.

Establishes an example in following policies, procedures and standard that govern delivery of patient care in compliance with established state, federal, corporate, hospital, and nursing department regulations and accreditation standards.

Adheres to the Hospital's policies and demonstrates compliance with the Code of Ethics.

 

FINANCIAL

Assists Director in planning, developing, implementing, and  assuming accountability for departmental operational and capital budgets. 

Manages daily productivity and payroll.

Identifies and implements cost saving opportunities.

 

PEOPLE

Participates in activities that provide professional growth and development.

Serves as an interdepartmental liaison with individuals in every hospital department.

Provides direct involvement in the recruitment, development, recognition and retention of nursing staff.  Manages hiring and termination process.

Provides oversight in scheduling staff and delegation of tasks.  Conducts staff meetings. 

Collaborates with Risk Management in patient care issues.

 

 

GROWTH

Organizes and conducts annual performance evaluations of unit staff and conducts re-evaluations as appropriate.

Ensures staff development.  Provides that new employees are adequately oriented and socialized in assigned unit, assigns appropriate preceptors and opportunities.

Encourages professional development of staff and provides expertise in hospital Professional and Developmental bonus programs. 

 

This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients and families. Personnel in this position must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in each age category. They must also be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families from birth to death according to standards. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, and/or experience.

 

The patients in these units are generally adult women ages 12-100 who are pre or post delivery or post-surgical/gynecological patients. Newborns who have made a successful transition to extra uterine life are also cared for at times in a "mother-baby-care" situation. 

 

 

Requirements

Job Requirements

  • Requires completion from accredited school of nursing. Bachelors required, Masters preferred.
  • Must maintain current State Registered Nurse license, current CPR certification and hospital mandatory education requirements.
  • 3-5 years Nurse Manager experience highly preferred.
  • Previous/ recent L & D RN experience required.

  • Has frequent interaction with physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, patients and their families.  Must have the sensitivity, maturity, and ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • This position requires leadership abilities, professionalism, common sense, flexibility, honesty, and a service oriented attitude.
