THE POSITION
The Nevada Mines Manager reports directly to the Manager of Mining and Exploration and will have the responsibility of leading the mine planning and operations for multiple open pit mines in Nevada. This position must also work closely with our exploration group to expand existing reserves and find new reserves nearby existing operations.
Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage all aspects of operation, including the development of comprehensive block models and mine plans as needed to support short and long range mine plans, and create weekly production goals so that they can be carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
- Mobilize and demobilize mining equipment to several remote mining sites so that ore stockpiles are maintained and characterized ahead of demand at our processing facilities in Lovelock and Clark.
- Participates in mining feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, equipment selection, mine site facilities, capital and operating costs, and manpower and production requirements.
·Serves as Project Manager or technical expert, on large/complex site expansion or modification projects.
·Manage contracted mining when required.
·Provide technical direction for engineering and mining team(s).
·Ensure that operations maintain compliance with local, state, and federal agencies regarding safety and environmental compliance.
·Direct the evaluation of opportunities for land acquisition and development as required. Assist in the maintenance of records for lease payments, royalties, contracted mining payments and mining claims.
·Prepare capital justifications for new equipment purchases and major components.
·Reporting to this position are the Mine teams from all Nevada locations

THE CANDIDATE
The Nevada Mine Manager must have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in a results oriented culture. Ideally this experience will include open-pit mining of industrial minerals. Experience should include a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience and 10+ years of overall experience in a mining engineering or operations capacity.
Functional experience in open mining, mine planning, and supervision is required. Demonstrated skills in mine planning software (i.e., Surpac or Mincom) and surveying with GPS is highly preferred. The ideal candidate needs to adept at working in a dynamic, independent environment.
The successful candidate will have strong experience in the following areas:
- Leading an organization from “adequacy" to “best in the business" by driving improvements in mine planning, extraction and operations.
- Understanding and managing financial results.
·Establishing individual performance goals.
·Driving culture change and performance management/accountability across the mining operations.
- Implementing major projects on time and on budget.
·Managing environmental requirements for compliance with laws and policies.
Other requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent required. A Masters’ degree or PE is preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of practical operational and mine planning experience.
- Ability to blend coaching, modeling, managing and recruiting to effectively drive improved results, develop followers and strengthen the operations team.
