Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for leading the design and technology integration in support of new product introduction; coordinates project work to meet the completion time and cost limits to the satisfaction of the sponsor. Will be responsible for the design and development of new components and systems within Pro-Engineer. Heavy focus in mechanisms and mechanical design.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·         Education and/or Experience:  BS degree in engineering, with a major in mechanical, industrial or structural engineering and a minimum of 10 years progressive experience in manufacturing, design , and management in industrial production of fabricated metal products. BSME is preferred.

·         Supervise, train, and develop workers in the skills of CADD design, engineering, and costing. 

·         Oversee the accurate preparation of shop drawings, material lists, direct material costs, product pricing, and customer quotations. Will determine and ensure the use of specific design approaches and parameters and will conduct feasibility studies on new designs.

·         Will analyze equipment to establish operating data, ensure experimental tests are conducted and evaluate the results.

·         Will select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications, reliability and regulatory requirements.

·         Review new and existing products to assure fitness for use, safety and that they conform to industry codes and standards. Assist in the development process by ensuring designs are cost efficient, have manufacturability and are reliable.

·         Will assist in evaluating vendor capability to support development.

·         Receive, study, and interpret bid forms and specifications to determine accurate product design to meet customer requirements.

·         Engineer and develop new products and product extensions for new and expanding markets. Modify existing products.

·         Provide project leadership and technical support, as required.

·         Support product development from concept through transfer to production.

·         Interface with manufacturing to assist with resolving production and technical problems

·         Interface with customers and potential customers on technical issues and in the design phase on new products.

·         Write technical proposals, estimate costs and manage projects from concept to product launch.

·         Interface with Sales Team in responding to requests for quotes and opportunities for new business.

·         Assist the Operations Manager in realizing opportunities for engineering solutions to product design and in-plant production bottlenecks through experience and external resource contacts in achieving workable solutions.

·         Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, drawings, instructions, budgets, etc.  Ability to write memos, detailed reports, correspondence, and spreadsheets.  Ability to communicate with management, customers, co-workers, workers and sales/marketing people.  Must be able to train supervisors, managers, and workers in the implementation of engineering objectives.  Ability to communicate by electronic mail.

·         Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform mathematical and two variable algebraic operations, analyze quantitative systems, use trigonometric calculations for CADD designs, and interpret data and graphs.  Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.  Ability to compute cost and profit when developing new products.  Ability to use computer formulas in developing product costs.

·         Reasoning Ability: Able to analyze problem designs and relate them to manufacturing processes.  Ability to develop practical solutions dealing with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in unstructured parameters.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphical form.  Ability to analyze or recommend alternative methods and solutions by observable or inferred information.

·         Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill:  Knowledge of TQM, TPM and JIT.  AutoCAD design is required and SolidWorks design is preferred, spread sheeting and word processing software, communications programs, ability to learn the CIM system, familiarity with metal processing machines and equipment to include multi-line phones, copier and fax machines.  Must be proficient in the areas of the company’s information management system that are applicable to this position. 

·         Other Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational and people skills, mature, with leadership abilities.  Independent, well focused, and self-motivating.

·         Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to chemical fumes and caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, dust level is moderate.
