Description The UWHC Health Unit Coordinator is an entry-level position performing technical duties for an in-patient unit in a teaching hospital setting.  Work is performed under close supervision, progressing to limited supervision with incumbent training and experience.  Major responsibilities include communicating patient and family requests to nursing and/or other appropriate personnel, transcribing physician orders onto appropriate records, communicating pertinent information to other departments, coordinating communication via the patient call console, telephone, pneumatic tube station and Action 2000 system, maintaining the clinical record and performing tasks for patient admission, transfer and/or discharge. The UWHC Health Unit Coordinator is accountable to the Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM).

Work Schedule:
50%, Day/Evening, 8/12-hour shifts with a weekend rotation required.  Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.  Must be able to work days and evenings during the week.
Requirements 1. Proficient in medical terminology, basic human anatomy and physiology and medical abbreviations.
2. Demonstrated skill in problem solving and decision-making.
3. Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
4. Ability to function as a team member and to contribute to overall planning for patient care.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and team members, including both verbal and written communication.
6. Ability to demonstrate efficient time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
7. Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service and guest relations.
8. Effective organizational skills.
