Navy Engineers generally fall into one of two disciplines: Nuclear Engineering and Civil Engineering. Each category offers exceptional challenges and opportunities for professional growth – along with a host of benefits enjoyed exclusively by Navy Officers.
Navy Nuclear Engineering
As a Navy Nuclear Power Officer, you’ll assume authority over the nuclear propulsion system of either an aircraft carrier or submarine. The U.S. Navy pioneered the use of nuclear propulsion in seagoing vessels, currently under use by more than 80 submarines and aircraft carriers. Your education and training will be unrivaled in the private sector, and your leadership as an Officer will be unquestioned. You could be called to:
Maintain and operate sophisticated nuclear propulsion plants and modern weapons and sensor systems on ships or submarines
Assume watch in the control room of a $2 billion warship
Direct projects to improve nuclear power plants in ships or submarines
Navy Civil Engineering
As a Navy Civil Engineer, you’ll take part in an exhaustive range of projects, from development contracts worth up to tens of millions of dollars, to directing overseas construction of critical humanitarian importance. Even managing the public works of Navy bases the size of small cities. You’ll develop unrivaled leadership experience and professional expertise, and you could:
Command dozens of professional builders and artisans in overseas construction
Work closely with researchers in the building and installation of next-generation renewable energy projects
Construct underwater and ocean-side facilities

LAUNCH A CAREER THAT’S EXCEPTIONAL IN EVERY SENSE
To qualify for Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate funding and Active Duty employment consideration as a Nuclear Propulsion Officer in the Navy, you must meet the following requirements:
Be a U.S. citizen
Be enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university
Be at least age 19 to enroll and younger than age 29 when commissioned (age waivers considered)
Have completed at least one year of college-level calculus
Possess a high aptitude in the sciences and mathematics
Be in good physical condition and pass a full medical examination
To qualify for Civil Engineer Corps Collegiate Program funding and Active Duty employment consideration as a Civil Engineering Officer in the Navy, you must meet the following requirements:
Be a U.S. citizen
Have or be pursuing an ABET-accredited engineering degree or NAAB-accredited architecture degree
Be at least age 19 to enroll and younger than age 35 when commissioned
Be in good physical condition and pass a full medical examination
