Description This Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife seeks a Wildlife Division Director who will be overseeing a Division of 24 biologists, ecologists and specialists with an annual budget of approximately $3.2 million.  The Director will oversee all research, harvest management, endangered species recovery efforts, and outreach initiatives related to wildlife species in Vermont.  The Director oversees two sections (Habitat Conservation and Management, and Species Conservation and Management).  The Division is responsible for resource conservation, regulations and permitting.  The Director will oversee data collection systems, identify and implement research priorities, coordinate projects within the Division and other Department programs.  This position makes presentations and recommendations to the Fish and Wildlife Board, Vermont’s Endangered Species Committee and the state legislature. The Director conducts public input and planning meetings and reports findings to the public on Department programs.  Oversees the administration and management of Department Wildlife Management Areas.  Coordinates with Division Directors for Outreach, Law Enforcement, Fisheries and the Business Office. Establishes policies and positions within state lands, regulatory reviews, and staff testimony within Department technical assistance projects.  This position reports directly to the F&W Director of Operations.
Requirements REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, wildlife management, or a closely related biological field.
  • Five years at a professional level in a wildlife management program, including or supplemented by two years of administrative or supervisory responsibilities.
  •  Graduate degree in wildlife biology or wildlife management may be substituted for two years of the required wildlife management experience.
  •  Graduate degree in public administration may be substituted for one year of the required administrative or supervisory experience.
