Description
Directs and coordinates the activities of the Feasterville (FV) Technology Team, focusing on aggressively pursuing the development of new adhesives and coatings in accordance with the overall business strategy. Responsible for maintaining current formulations, including manufacturing and customer support. Adhesive product development responsibilities scope to expand beyond FV to include the entire corporation. Manages and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in product development, technical product maintenance, and technical customer support by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plans, organizes, directs and controls activities of the FV technology team in support of corporate technology goals and overall business goals. Prioritizes and oversees technology department projects.
Focuses resources on projects that meet company’s strategic focus and customers’ current needs.
Manages activities of engineers and technicians in developing and modifying adhesive formulations from a corporate perspective, product and process validations, and materials selections for FV and Hamilton, OH.
Manages adhesive portfolio from a corporate perspective.
CAPA support and resolution; customer, supplier, internal and external.
Provides customer technical support as needed.
Develops department policy and procedures.
Responsible for the hiring, training, and development of FV technology department staff per corporate technology guidelines.
Aggressively pursues coating innovations in support of corporate strategy.
Builds positive relationships with other departments to support the delivery of optimal customer services.
Has regulatory awareness for the development and manufacture of medical devices and pharmaceutical products.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages 5-6 subordinate engineers and technicians. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the FV Technology department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

In depth knowledge of adhesives
Basic understanding of medical packaging concepts and healthcare marketplace.
Supervisory experience
Product Development experience
Previous experience with coating equipment and processes, materials research.
Basic understanding of printing applications and converting.
Basic understanding of regulatory standards applicable to product development in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Requires a Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree preferred. Preferred fields of study: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
Significant knowledge and history working with and/or creating adhesives
Provides advice and training on new products, concepts, and projects
Works with external committees to enhance company reputation in industry
Trains internal and external customers on validation, testing and industry changes
Interfaces with technical and marketing departments. Provides technical information and translates data into marketing tools
Assists with quality issues to determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to interpret and draw conclusions from nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, data).
