Hospice Senior Director of Clinical Services


 

 

  

POSITION SUMMARY:

  

The Hospice Senior Director of Clinical Services is responsible for the management of clinical services provided by several Hospice Program Directors in all locations.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS OF THE HOSPICE SENIOR DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL SERVICES :

 

  • Receives direction and supervision from the Vice President of Hospice.
  • Provides direction and supervision to the Director of Patient Care Services in each Branch and the Director of Patient Care Services – After Hours, as well as other designated clinical program and support personnel.

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE HOSPICE SENIOR DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL SERVICES :

  • Manages day-to-day operations of the Hospice Program.
  • Provides supervision  mentorship to the directors, managers and coordinators of the various program areas.
  • Assures an adequate number of qualified personnel to carry out the functions of the Hospice Program; assures orientation, in-service training and supervision of program staff for the provision of quality patient care.
  • Provides leadership in program planning and development activities as they relate Hospice.
  • Manages program performance through development and monitoring of outcome measures and statistics.
  • Assures that areas of quality and outcome enhancement and focus are communicated to management and clinical staff for implementation and follow through.
  • Assures appropriate education to the clinical staff in collaboration with the Education Manager.
  • Develops and implements plans to correct identified deficiencies.
  • Develops program specific policies & procedures in collaboration with pertinent management and staff members; seeks appropriate approval; implements and revises policies and procedures as required by licensure, regulations or as directed.
  • Assures compliance with all state and federal laws, regulations, licensure and accreditation standards.
  • Is accountable for performance to program budget and work plan.
  • Provides leadership in the development, negotiation and implementation of service agreements and contracts with providers of services necessary to meet the needs of Hospice patients and families.
  • Hires, trains and supervises staff; manages employee issues, including, evaluations, and disciplinary action.  Implements personnel policies as appropriate.
  • Serves as an agency resource regarding hospice and care of the terminally ill.
  • Actively models and communicates the agency mission and vision and supports a corporate culture of empowerment, team development, open communication, and risk taking.
  • Models the agency philosophy of continuous performance improvement and assures the continuous improvement and quality improvement needs of the program are supported.
  • Approaches agency business with a customer satisfaction focus.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Community Relations represents Pathways Hospice at a variety of public events and speaking engagements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the goals and mission of the Agency
Requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE HOSPICE SENIOR DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL SERVICES POSITION:

  • BA/BS is required. Master’s degree in health-related field or business administration preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience within the past 10 years; a minimum of three of these years in a management/administrative capacity.
  • Prefer minimum 2 years hospice experience.
  • Clinical license to practice in the State of California in field of training, if applicable.  RN preferred
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Possesses strong customer services approach.
  • Must have the ability perform effectively in a team environment
  • Program planning experience preferred
  • Possesses and maintains a valid California Driver’s license and required levels of automobile insurance.
