Republic Services, Inc. and Allied Waste Industries, Inc. announced Friday, December 5, 2008, that they have completed their historic merger to create one of the nation's leading waste and environmental services providers. The combined company, which will be based in Phoenix, will be named Republic Services, Inc. and will trade under the ticker symbol "RSG" on The New York Stock Exchange. As of the close of the market on December 5, 2008, Allied Waste stock was delisted and will no longer trade on NYSE. The combined company will have more than 35,000 employees serving more than 13 million customers in 40 states and Puerto Rico.

We have a General Manager position open in Anaheim, CA.

The General Manager manages the operations and financial success of a business unit which may include one or more hauling companies, transfer stations, landfills and/or recycleries (MRFs). Responsible for the efficient and safe work activities of all division employees.

Representative Responsibilities - General Manager:
  • Interfaces with regional and district staff in formulating short and long-term goals consistent with the company's financial and operational objectives.
  • Exemplifies and upholds company ethics and environmental, operating, regulatory, safety and accounting policies and standards.
  • Communicates company objectives and philosophies to employees. Ensures positive morale of division employees.
  • Provides guidance and direction to division managers/supervisors in budgeting process. Assists staff in designing budgets that contribute acceptable margin improvements and significant annual growth.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and expertise, and oversees hiring, training and performance management of business unit employees.
  • Interacts with division staff on current operations. Assists staff with their needs, resolves concerns and difficulties, conducts routine site inspections.
  • Monitors current status vs. budget (P&L s, CapEx. cash flow, Accounts Receivable, etc.) and develops realistic attainable action items for areas needing improvement.
  • Responsible for the execution, follow up, and sustainability of planned operating improvements.
  • Improves and maintains communications, timeliness and accuracy of reporting and collection of data from divisions within the business unit.
  • Oversees and maintains an effective accident prevention program, ensures all reasonable actions are taken to prevent accidents or injuries, and ensures a safe and productive work environment for all employees.
  • Interacts professionally and courteously with customers, vendors, members of the community and municipal and other government employees.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Equivalent of (1) high school diploma or G.E.D. certification and minimum of 5 years management and job-related experience including experience in sales, operations and/or maintenance functions; OR (2) Bachelor's Degree in business, operations management or related field and 2 years of job-related experience.
  • Previous experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, operations management or related field.
  • Landfill operator license, if responsible for a landfill.
  • Prior experience in waste or transportation industry desired.
