Description
So you want to work for a cool company? Why not work for more than one at the same time? We have nearly 50,000 business customers in Oregon and they come in all shapes and sizes, from a maker of rock-climbing walls to a horse treadmill manufacturer to wildland firefighters, and they need your help.
Like us, our customers (and their workers!) want to prevent on-the-job injuries. In fact, making Oregon the safest place to work is a core part of our company mission. That’s why we’ve just created four openings for a new team of safety representatives.
We provide a year-long training program that begins in February 2010 in our Portland office. (Along the way, we’ll provide other training opportunities, too).
If you’re wondering what a safety representative does, the short story is this: You help businesses reduce on-the-job injuries by providing hands-on, professional, safety and health services. That could be teaching them how to find and correct safety hazards or showing them the financial and human benefits of eliminating injuries.
You’ll also help develop new safety resources for employers by collaborating with SAIF’s safety professionals. There will be lots of opportunities to develop and conduct training and seminars for groups of five to 50 participants.
Once you successfully complete the training program, a position awaits you on our Safety Services team in Portland as a safety management consultant, working with companies throughout the state of Oregon. Opportunities also may exist to serve in one of our regional offices throughout the state.
Unlike a lot of jobs, you don’t need a speck of experience in workplace safety to get in the door. You do, however, need a strong interest in businesses, how they operate in different industries, and how you can help them improve workplace safety.
