Description Statement of Primary Purpose:
The main responsibilities of this position are to assist in the daily administration of accounting functions.  This position is responsible for maintaining an accurate and complete general ledger in order to ensure resulting reports and financial statements are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and College policies.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Answer inquiries and provide information concerning policies and procedures or account status to vendors, students, faculty, and/or staff in a professional and courteous manner.
Process financial information which may include invoices, payments, receipts, and payroll records; review activity within assigned accounts and/or funds for accuracy and completeness.
Balance and reconcile assigned accounts and/or funds; research and reconcile any problems or discrepancies.
Prepare reports involving assigned accounts and/or funds ensuring compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory, and/or College requirements.
Make recommendations regarding general ledger accounts and journal entries.
Insure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
May enter budget revision requests and other information into Colleague.
May enter journal entries to the general ledger.
May assist in cash receipting.
Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements Education:
An Associate’s Degree in Accounting or a closely related field, plus two years work experience. A four year degree is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:
The ideal candidate will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety.
Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles and practices.  Experience in NC governmental accounting is preferred.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.
Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, adapt to changing priorities and situations, and follow-through on the completion of assignments.
Ability to create and maintain spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and other written communications using Microsoft Word.

Physical Demands:
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
