ASSOCIATE DEAN, MBA PROGRAMS 

 
Primary Function: Reports to the College of Business Dean. 

 
Responsible for
• Managing the full-time MBA program and the Professional MBA program on the Urbana-Champaign campus. 
• Set the strategic direction for the administrative aspects of the MBA program including admissions, student services, career services, and alumni affairs 
• Be a leader of the program and staff 
• Initiate and manage the strategic planning process 
• Provide vision and motivation to the staff and encourage innovation 
• Participate in the international discussions regarding MBA programs and translate these trends in business and business education 
• Collaborate within the College and across the Campus regarding the creation and implementation of the strategy for the MBA program 
• Create and utilize an MBA advisory board 
• Actively engage alumni and other stakeholders of the program and the College 
• Assist the Dean of the College with strategic initiatives 
• Manage the MBA Program Office, Staff, and Services in collaboration with college and campus partners 
• With the Academic Program Director, provide support to the academic program and the effective delivery of the curriculum 
• With the Director of Admissions and the Associate Director of Marketing and Alumni Relations, develop and implement the students recruiting, marketing, and enrollment strategy and process • With the Director of Student Services, ensure high quality student advising, services, activities and response to student needs. Act as the final authority to student concerns 
• Collaborate with Illinois Business Consulting to expand/ enhance experiential learning opportunities for students 
• With the Director of Career Services, work to develop student job-seeking skills and expand their opportunities for employment 
• With the Director of Alumni and External Affairs and the Associate Director of Marketing and Alumni Relations, develop and improve communications with alumni and activities for alumni participation 
• In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Administration, prepare and be responsible for the budget of the MBA program 
• Coordinate budget, space, personnel and other resource activities/needs with the College Budget and Resource Planning Office Perform the appropriate human relations functions and demonstrate the appropriate interpersonal skills 
• Screen, hire, manage, and motivate qualified staff personnel 
• Develop rapport with students, faculty, and staff 
• Provide appropriate training and encourage staff to engage in professional development 
• Maintain liaison with other units in the college and represent the program when appropriate
Requirements Minimum Education and Work Experience: 
• The position requires a Masters or PhD in business or a closely related field; appropriate academic and administrative experience preferably in a major business school; broad knowledge of management education; at least five (5) years experience in a similar position including project management, planning and operation skills; and proven leadership and strong interpersonal skills • Substantial project management, planning, and operations skills, including attention to detail, follow-through and multi-tasking orientation 
• Understanding of the strategic importance and use of information technology in the administration of the program and for student use 
• Understanding of the strategic importance and implementation of marketing plans 
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills 
• Strong team-building and conflict resolution skills 
• Proven ability to create and implement a strategy in a collaborative environment 
• Strong working knowledge of a public university and a proven ability to build relationships across a campus 

 
Rank, Salary & Date of Employment: 
This Associate Dean position is an 80 percent which may increase to 100 percent time. Service is required on a 12-month basis. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting date is January 1, 2010.
