The Manager of Real Estate Financial Operations will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations functions related to real estate activities, providing guidance and analysis related to real estate accounting, working closely with management of all supporting areas and overseeing the accounting systems integration and support. 

 

Specific responsibilities for this position include:

  • Manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and operational reporting for investment accounting.
  • Collaborates with analysis groups to ensures accurate and timely posting of all journal entries to the ledgers.
  • Oversees the daily, monthly and annual accounting close processes.
  • Manages system administration responsibilities and approves the setup of entity structures in the accounting system, the relationships between entities, chart of account changes, account tree mappings, user security access and rollup rules.
  • Assists with real estate acquisitions, dispositions and other activity using a solid understanding of GAAP and accounting for real estate.
  • Oversight of data feeds to and from other systems to ensure accurate and timely feed and approves required changes with the different data feeds.
  • Reviews and updates the internal control procedures and accounting processes that relate to real estate accounting.
  • Works closely with other real estate accounting groups, middle office, front office, internal auditors and external auditors to ensure timely reporting, accurate financial statements, compliance with regulatory requirements, adhering to SOX controls and to resolve issues.
  • Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective actions.
  • Communicates and coordinates accounting policies, practices, and procedures with department and property managers.
  • Establish appropriate methods of oversight, internal control and administration with respect to new investment types and/or property manager/administrator relationships.
  • Manages and develops operations staff and champions talent development to build technical and leadership capabilities.
Requirements

General Experience

  • 8-10 years of real estate financial operations work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience specific to managing accounting operations
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or related discipline required. MBA/CPA preferred
  • Expert knowledge of GAAP, real estate contracts and accounting within the real estate industry required
