NOTICE OF FACULTY VACANCY IN PIANO - Beginning August 15, 2010
POSITION TITLE: Artist Teacher of Piano
RANK AND SALARY: Assistant (tenure track) or Associate Professor (with or without tenure), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Piano Division of the University of Maryland School of Music seeks a candidate with an established reputation for excellence in piano performance and teaching, a graduate degree in performance or commensurate professional experience, and demonstrated expertise in both traditional and contemporary piano repertoire.
RESPONSIBILITES: To teach piano students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; to recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate students; to mentor and advise piano students in all performance degree programs; to take on potential further types of teaching/advising responsibilities, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and interests and on the needs of the School of Music. To perform in the School of Music as solo pianist and in collaboration with other faculty members, as well as in professional venues outside the university; to pursue other relevant creative activities or research interests; to be active and visible in the network of the discipline. To serve on faculty committees; to participate fully in a collaborative and collegial community of faculty, staff, students, and administration. The applicant must be willing and available to address responsibilities on a regular basis.
SCHOOL OF MUSIC: The School of Music is a professional, comprehensive arts institution housed in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, a state-of-the-art complex with six performance venues, rehearsal rooms, production shops, classrooms, and the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library which houses the International Piano Archives at Maryland. IPAM’s collections comprise the world's most extensive concentration of piano recordings, books, scores, programs and related materials, including the archival papers of many great keyboard artists. Additionally, The Clarice Smith Center hosts the William Kapell International Piano Competition & Festival in 2012.
Located just minutes from the Nation’s Capital, the University is linked by mass transit to one of the most vital music scenes in the country.
