Description

The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) is currently seeking a Biosafety Officer (BSO) for its Jupiter Florida facility.  This position will manage the biosafety program; implement and administer biosafety policies, procedures, and protocols; and provide recommendations for the safe use, storage, and disposal of potentially infectious materials in compliance with CDC, NIH, and State of Florida regulations and TSRI requirements.  Job duties include monitoring and conducting compliance audits; performing risk assessment of Select Agent and BSL-2 and 3 facilities.  The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and processing IBC and IACUC research project registrations, and developing and delivering biosafety training programs.  Duties also include effectively interacting and communicating with varied research staff in a multi-disciplinary team environment.  Other EH&S related duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned by the EH&S Director.  

 

Requirements

Required:  Bachelor's degree in microbiology or other closely related biological science and a minimum of 5 years of experience in biosafety, preferably within a BSL-3 facility or a Masters degree and a minimum of 3 years experience in biosafety, preferably within a BSL-3 facility.  Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to conduct effective training and presentations, and computer skills including MS Office. Must be able to pass a respirator physical.  Must have a current, valid Florida driver’s license.  In emergencies, must be available for response after hours, on weekends, and during holidays.  

Related experience in an academic or scientific non-profit institutional setting preferred. 

Experience working with bloodborne pathogens, IBC, and IACUC is preferred.  

Florida & Palm Beach County residents preferred.
