Exciting opportunity available for an experienced Polymer Scientist in Lock Haven, PA! As a Polymer Scientist you would be responsible for the following:
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide polymer synthesis and formulating support for the development and promotion of adhesives and coatings for targeted customer applications.
• Together with greater technology teams, modify and employ appropriate technology to meet specific applications in support of customer driven development projects
• Understand and scope experimental design objectives, gather and interpret data, develop findings, prepare technical reports to be shared both inter-organizationally and with external customers
• Perform R&D and analytical testing in the laboratory as needed, following established procedures. Work is typically peer reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall accuracy and adequacy
• Translate customer requirements into actionable strategies and tactics to assist greater technology organization with assessing and commercializing new technology
• Together with division personnel, apply a hands-on approach and scientific principles of adhesion, synthesis and formulating design to solve a variety of internal quality issues, material returns and customer complaints of moderate scope and complexity
• Use technical expertise to support strategic sourcing initiatives by qualifying new or alternate raw materials for continuity of existing product line
• Conduct travel to execute customer trials and interpret feedback (up to 20% travel possible)
• Assist with the scoping of work projects and establishing performance targets to satisfy unmet needs in marketplace
• Follow new product development process, and lead some development activities through design, scale-up and launch processes.
• Define projects for Applications Laboratory staff. Analyze results/conclusions and provide recommendations.
• Actively participate in Six Sigma, ELS and corporate growth and quality processes and initiatives

Required Skills:
• 4+ years related experience in the role of adhesives, coatings or polymers field, commercial product development, technical project management
• Experience with synthesis of acrylic emulsion and/or solution polymers
Requirements

• 4+ years related experience in the role of adhesives, coatings or polymers field, commercial product development, technical project management
• Experience with synthesis of acrylic emulsion and/or solution polymers preferred
• Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes and function specific software.
• Strong math and analytical skills.
• Strong organization and attention to detail.
• Strong scientific and engineering knowledge in specialty.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Ability to interface effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.
• Knowledgeable on process documentation and improvement.
• Knowledge of Lean concepts, Six Sigma and Design for Six Sigma beneficial
• Supervisory experience a plus.
Educational Requirements:
4+ Years engineering, research, scientific or related experience with Bachelor’s Degree. BS degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or Natural Sciences discipline, or equivalent – providing sufficient exposure to and knowledge of fundamental theories, principals and concepts.
• 3+ years with Masters Degree.
