Description

CompassLearning is an award winning Austin-based educational software company and creator of the Odyssey K-12 series. With more than 35 years of experience in the field of research-based education software, the company delivers standards-aligned curriculum, assessment and comprehensive data reporting products. CompassLearning serves more than 11 million students in more than 20,000 schools nationwide.

We are seeking an Educational Consultant (Montgomery or Birmingham) to deliver professional development to our customers.  While training allows customers to understand the basic use of a product, solid professional development -- tailored to a customer's vision and following an outlined implementation plan which includes regular progress checks -- allows for true effectiveness in meeting student and educator needs. Using such a plan,  with focus on staff development towards changing the manner in which teachers and students interact, can allow for true product integration into the learning environment.

Effective professional development requires an understanding of teaching in the K-12 environment as well as the principles of adult learning. As frequent customer communication is a key component, it is imperative that candidates are skilled at communicating both verbally and in written format with various district and school personnel. To ensure the quality of CompassLearning professional development, it is critical that we build a successful relationship and provide effective consultative services which enhance the academic process.

Roles & Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares and delivers approximately 165 billable days of professional development annually (targets are assigned individually based on regional requirements).
  • Schedules and conducts curriculum and management system training for staff development of both internal and external clients. Utilizes K-12 teaching experience to effectively relate to attendees and their various classroom needs.
  • Interacts with appropriate district and site-level personnel to coordinate the implementation plan through secured resources and scheduled training.
  • Facilitates the delivery of professional development to meet implementation goals established with customers.
  • Monitors site performance, evaluates the effectiveness of training, and shares pertinent information with customers.
  • Develops advanced knowledge of CompassLearning products: curriculum, assessment, and management system.
  • Actively pursues and achieves the renewal of professional development contracts through on-site visits, follow-up phone calls and excellent delivery of services and training.
  • Strategize with area sales and technical team members to assess the best way to meet or exceed customer requirements and ensure satisfaction.
  • Utilizes current research and educational knowledge in working with customers to assess needs, to develop and articulate goals (vision) and to write implementation plans.
  • Communicates the features and advantages of instructional technology, in concert with the technical operations and benefits of related computer systems.
  • Completes daily activity reports and forwards them through the automated services tracking system.
  • Attends and participates in assigned forums to keep abreast of current products and educational trends (e.g. training, meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.)
  • Participates in reviewing product during the Product Development cycle as needed.
  • Produces instructional materials.
Requirements

  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates skills in providing polished, solution-based presentations applicable to various levels of school personnel.
  • Exhibits a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Projects a positive self-image of confidence in personal abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to work as a team member, develop positive working alliances, and perform as a liaison within the organization.
  • Projects a strong work ethic and energetic enthusiasm.
  • Demonstrates flexibility.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Works independently.

Education / Knowledge:

  • Masters degree preferred; Bachelors degree and teaching credential required.
  • Knowledge of educational theories, education environment, curriculum and technology required.
  • Three to five years teaching experience at the K-12 level.
  • Staff training experience within an Education setting preferred, inclusive of program and courseware development.
  • Prior work in curriculum development, staff development or other related experience.
  • Leadership roles in work related teams or professional organizations.
