Description

Director Financial Planning & Analysis

This position is a Controller's Department accounting position managing a focused, professional team of 8-11 staff. The Director Financial Planning & Analysis is responsible for leading the planning, coordination and preparation of accurate and timely filings of quarterly and annual earnings releases and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Form 10Q/10K filings, including consolidated financial statements, footnotes and MD&A. This position has significant executive management exposure and offers the opportunity to develop a broad knowledge of the company's operations and consolidated financial information. This position is also responsible for assisting the Director of Accounting Policy with technical accounting research, including the review, interpretation, communication and implementation of new accounting pronouncements. This position will work directly for the Vice President and Controller and work closely with the CFO, Corporate Accounting and Business Unit Controllers, Vice President of Tax, and internal and external auditors.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plan and supervise the quarterly analytical review of consolidated financial statement amounts included in financial reports filed with the SEC.
  2. Plan and supervise the preparation of, and assumes responsibility for, the timely and accurate quarterly and annual filing of financial reports with the SEC.
  3. Review business unit financial performance reporting packages and interact with business unit controllers to prepare a comprehensive and accurate “Management’s Discussion and Analysis of Operations and Financial Condition," included in financial reports filed with the SEC.
  4. As a member of the Company’s Disclosure Controls & Procedures Committee;
    - Review footnotes in quarterly and annual financial statements to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with SEC and U.S. GAAP disclosure requirements.
    - Coordinate and resolve accounting and disclosure comments on SEC document drafts received from external auditors, management, internal legal counsel and external SEC legal counsel.
  5. Manage annual audits of benefit plans and certain North American subsidiaries, and coordinate statutory external reporting for foreign subsidiaries.
  6. Active involvement in the analysis and review of emerging business issues, new transactions and acquisitions and divestitures, to determine appropriate accounting treatment in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements.
  7. Primary point of contact for providing accounting and internal control guidance to Corporate and Business Unit Controllers.
  8. Keep current with new accounting and financial reporting standards. Participate in determining and documenting impact assessments for new accounting standards and reporting guidance.
  9. Prepare, and/or supervise the preparation of, documentation supporting significant accounting decisions or conclusions.
  10. Primary responsibility for oversight of income tax accounting procedures in compliance with FASB Statement No. 109.
  11. Ensure adequate internal controls are designed and operating effectively related to financial statement preparation and income tax accounting processes.
  12. Supervise and develop eight to ten professional staff.
     
Requirements REQUIRED:
  1. Bachelors degree in accounting.

  2. Certified Public Accountant with +/- 8 years of financial accounting and reporting experience, with at least 5 years SEC client public accounting firm and/or public company SEC reporting experience.

  3. Expert knowledge of application of U.S. GAAP accounting and SEC reporting standards.

DESIRED:

  1. Broad technical accounting knowledge including in-depth knowledge of accounting for derivative instruments and income taxes.

  2. Experience in a global commodity trading or a manufacturing industry is preferable.

  3. Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with peers, executive management, and external auditors.

  4. Successful candidate will be a dependable individual with a good attitude, integrity and values.

  5. Ability to work in a challenging environment with multiple changing and competing priorities.
