Claim Service Representatives, Auto Unit
Trainee or experienced professional sought to join a highly respected and dynamic Auto Claims Dept. in beautiful, Montpelier, VT. Be part of a trusted property/ casualty insurance company that has been providing superior service and products since 1828. Trainees selected for the position will participate in a 3-4 month intensive training program that will prepare you to take the state adjuster's exam, which must be passed within six months from date of hire to fulfill the requirements.
Appropriate State Adjusters license within six months from date of hire is required for position.
You will directly coordinate, negotiate and settle a claims caseload comprised mostly of relatively high volume, low financial exposure & low complexity auto claims, typically via telephone. The primary emphasis is on producing quick and accurate claims settlements for our policy holders and claimants. Conclude all claims promptly and equitably within the provisions of the policy contract and in accordance with known damages and legal requirements. All files handled must comply with corporate quality standards, claim file handling guidelines and all other job expectations and requirements. The Claim Service Representative is also responsible for performing clerical functions in support the othe assigned claims unit and department. Other duties and clerical functions as assigned.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct and coordinate loss investigations on all assigned claims.
• Negotiate the settlement of claims within authorized amounts or specific file authority.
• Maintain accountability for all assigned claims until disposition is reached.
• Recommend further action on claims exceeding authority limits.
• Document all activity on assigned claims.
• Review new losses and files on diary to ensure reserve adequacy while keeping management informed of adverse developments.
• Monitor loss adjustment expense and take steps to mitigate file expenses.
• Review coverage questions and work with supervisor or claim management for approval.
• Refer appropriate coverage matters to the supervisor.
• Ensure appropriate file handling, documentation, reporting and expense control over all files handled.
• Provide accurate and timely information to all external and internal customers concerning claim status and other claim inquiries.
• Improve processes within the company to increase the level and quality of service provided to internal and external customers, i.e. workflow changes, systems implementation, etc.
• This position handles a claim pending which may vary in size and complexity based on internal and external demands.
• The Claim Service Representative is also responsible for performing numerous typical clerical tasks in support of the unit and department.
• Assist in the preparation of cases to facilitate disposition
• Complete special projects and other functions as required.

Requirements
Candidates should possess the following:
* College Degree (Bachelor's preferred);two or more years of relevant claim processing experience; or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
* Desire to learn about and become a professional in the insurance industry, specifically,
technical aspects of property claims adjudication;
* Willingness and ability to obtain the appropriate state Adjuster’s License(s) where required by law.
* Strong writing, math, analytical, communication (verbal & written) & problem-solving skills;
* Superior customer service skills;
* Strong attention to detail;
* Ability to represent the company to, & deal effectively with, a wide range of contacts, including all levels of company personnel, adjusters, outside firms, etc.;
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook;
* Ability to exercise sound judgment in dealing with professional and personnel situations;
* Ability to perform job duties effectively while under pressure;
* Experience with Imaging programs a plus.
