Description

Under the direction of the Medical Directors, Echo/Vascular Diagnostic Supervisor and the HVC Ancillary Manager, this position independently performs professional level assessments, and performs a variety of non-invasive studies as appropriate. The incumbent records the results and the clinical impressions as indicated. The results of these examinations are used to direct the course of patient care. This is a full performance Echo/Vascular Diagnostic Specialist with advanced knowledge of cardiac and peripheral vascular anatomy, physiology, and disease.

The incumbent independently performs clinical examinations on adults and occasionally on adolescents and pediatric age groups. The examinations are predominately performed in the HVC Non-Invasive Diagnostic Testing Laboratory and include portable examinations, which are done on inpatient units when the patient cannot be transported to the lab, the cath lab, outpatient sites at East and West Clinic locations and possibly other off-site facilities (i.e., Select Specialty Hospital).  The incumbent has daily contact with professionals and families, both inside and outside the hospital setting.

The Echo/Vascular Diagnostic Specialist encounters difficult problems related to examination evaluations on a daily basis, and must resolve them with limited supervision. The incumbent is able to assist with transesophageal, echo, dobutamine, and exercise stress echo examinations, as well as, peripheral non-invasive testing, carotid and transcranial duplex, aorta, and renal duplex scans. Preliminary impressions of examination results are relayed to referring physicians both within the hospital and at outside clinics and organizations.

The Echo/Vascular Diagnostic Specialist serves as a clinical instructor for the UW School of Ultrasound, and participates in the instruction of fellows, residents, and visiting physicians. The incumbent may also participate in clinical research, and acts as a clinical resource for other staff.

5.  Current CPR certification.
6.  Able to perform echo and vascular sonography studies including complex studies: stress echocardiography, dobutamine echocardiography, and transesophageal echocardiography examinations.
7.  Ability to recognize and record cardiac and peripheral vascular pathology in order for the physician to render a diagnosis.
8.  Excellent communication and customer service skills.
9.  Ability to maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment.
10.  Analytical decision making skills necessary to quickly assess and resolve technical, and patient care problems and issues.
