Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center has an opportunity available for a
Charge RN
for it’s Burlington, IA location.
Position Summary:
Oversee daily operations, conduct blood donor health histories and perform phlebotomies on donors in a positive and supportive environment on our mobile blood drives. The Charge Nurse position can perform all functions of a phlebotomy technician specialist. The Charge Nurse will provide operational support to Supervisor, Collections as needed and will demonstrate the ability to make operational decisions to ensure efficiency. This position may perform charge duties at primarily scheduled fixed site locations and on mobile operations as needed.
Job Responsibilities / Position Information for the Registered Nurse / RN include:

Must be a team player, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all internal and external customers of the Blood Center including Volunteers
Have the ability to make operational decisions to ensure efficiency

May conduct or assist in the training of new or existing employees/volunteers. Training includes, but is not limited to, computer systems(s) and their usage, SOPs, competencies, etc.

May conduct or assist with validation of system(s) used in the Blood Center. Validation includes, but is not limited to, review of vendor validation plans, test development, test execution, analysis of results, and operational recommendations to management.

Perform duties to include but not limited to operation preparation, registration, screening, drawing and caring for donors and blood products. Perform within department standards.
Based on licensure as an RN, may perform charge functions at primarily fixed sites and on mobile operations as needed.

Pre and post operation paperwork, (Mobiles - greets donor group coordinator, assess mobile site for acceptability,) assignment of staff duties at mobile or fixed site review of Donor History Cards, submission of PDE’s, supervise reactions, provide feedback to staff on performance, and relay any staff performance issues to Supervisor, Collections.

Drive to and from fixed site and mobile operations as assigned and maintain safe-driving standards.

Attend all safe-driving courses provided by the MVRBC

Must be able to work variable, non-routine hours when necessary.

May require out of town travel.

Perform charge duties at primarily scheduled fixed site locations and on mobile operations as needed.
Schedule: Variable hours, days and evenings including some weekends

Requirements for the Registered Nurse / RN include:
Education / Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing
- Must be trained in Cirtrate Reactions prior to being in charge of an Apheresis location.
Knowledge / Experience:
Licensure / Certifications:

Require an RN Licensure in Iowa and or Illinois

Must complete CPR certification within 3 months of hire, MVRBC will have certification class to help obtain this.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by our insurance carrier.
