Position Description
The candidate will be responsible for providing inter-organizational leadership in the translation of emerging feature ideas from Research and other organizations into fully realized device functions ready to hand off to the product development team.
Position Responsibilities
• The candidate must have the ability to work well throughout the development process. This begins in the early stages of a project when many aspects of the feature are not yet well defined through final release to production. The essence of this job is to bring clarity to definitional ambiguity so that tangible engineering decisions can be made regarding the integration of the feature into a product.
• Knowledge of competitive approaches to product features, and knowledge of the partitioning of product features across disciplines.
• It is also expected that the candidate will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Provide technical leadership to a new product / feature development project with an emphasis on product definition. This includes working with Research, Marketing, Project Management, and customers throughout the development cycle. Provide leadership in the delivery of a product. This may include providing technical work direction and coaching to other Engineers,
project planning and task scheduling, participating in project-wide technical decision making, and supporting peers on the project such that the overall project will be completed successfully.
• Set project objectives and milestones with initially complex or undetermined outcomes. Lead project decision-making using customer input and knowledge of technical feasibility. Provide project planning and management for these multi-functional or cross-business projects.
• Providing strategic technical input to the long-range planning process. Participate in the identification and resolution of inter-project issues.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
• BS in appropriate technical field (ex. Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology.)
• 10+ years of engineering experience
• Knowledge of research, product development, clinical, regulatory and business management.
• Negotiation skills with some ability to influence others
• Prior experience in managing product requirements
• Ability to work effectively in direct and cross-functional teams
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Demonstrated experience in meeting time to market needs with a high quality product
• Possess a strong commitment to company values
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
• Masters degree
• 10+ years of experience in the medical device
industry.
• Prior engineering experience in a regulated environment
• Working knowledge and experience with computer database tools
• Medical product development experience
Physical Job Requirements
• Standing / sitting 8 plus hours per day.
• Communicate effectively over the telephone.
• Efficient use of a computer terminal
