Capital Insurance Group has an excellent opportunity in our Product Development & Compliance Department in the Monterey, CA area for a Product Development Specialist. This technical assignment requires a person with excellent analytical and problem solving skills, knowledge of commercial risks and exposures along with production experience, and superior communications. The primary focus of this position is to assist in the development and delivery of new and potential Commercial Lines products and services in all Capital Insurance Group licensed territories. The ideal candidate will provide research and analysis of Commercial Lines products to formulate and recommend strategies to achieve profitability objectives. This position develops marketing media, forms, rates, guidelines, and communications for new and existing lines of business. It will also review proposals for special programs and assist Branches and Agencies in the development of forms and rates. Routine responsibilities include underwriting and procedural manual updates, technical assistance to field staff on existing products, and maintenance and upgrades of various in-house systems including collaboration with IT on product revisions. Additional duties can include participation in rate reviews; coordinating and conducting underwriting quality control file reviews of CIG Branch offices and special program Agencies; placing facultative reinsurance and umbrella program referrals as needed; and evaluation of compliance standards for referred new business, renewals, and endorsements which exceed Branch and special program Agencies’ underwriting authority levels.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-starter with extensive knowledge of commercial property and casualty forms and rating. Candidates should also demonstrate a high degree of initiative and analytical ability to evaluate market conditions, develop business strategies and measure business results. In addition, this position requires a person with excellent communications skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, agents and company personnel.
Requirements
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively challenging experience in Commercial Lines underwriting assignments with a minimum of two (2) years of training is preferred. CPCU certification or the completion of technical coursework, and a college degree (or equivalent experience) are a plus. You must also have strong personal computer skills with experience in the standard software applications including Word and Excel. A valid driver’s license with the ability to conduct overnight business travel is required.
