Description
The University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a Visiting Sponsored Award Specialist to provide financial oversight for post award activities, quarterly financial reporting requirements and special projects related to sponsored research projects funded with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) funds. Other duties and responsibilities include: 1. Facilitate and oversee all accounting related activities for sponsored research using ARRA stimulus funding. 2. Apply specialized knowledge in areas of procedures, compliance, invoicing, data maintenance and reporting related to post-award activities ensuring that all research activities are conducted within the University and departmental policies and procedures. 3. Review, evaluate, analyze and report on the cost incurred on each AARA funded project. Timely review, analysis, and reporting of the financial information is an essential function for this position. 4. Perform comprehensive post award administration including compliance and adherence to practice and policies for all sponsored projects including ARRA funds (award setup, billing, reporting and overall financial management). 5. Produce financial and award closeout reporting for sponsored projects including ARRA awards. 6. Coordinate communications regarding ARRA funds throughout the research community. 7. Prepare and submit quarterly reports in a timely manner. 8. Administer generally accepted accounting principles to each contract. 9. Assist with compliance activities as deemed appropriate, monitor changes and/or incremental requirements related to stimulus funding. 10. Maintain specialized knowledge of sponsored program administration and sponsoring agency terms and conditions. 11. Analyze and assess customer issues, determine and initiate a course of action to resolve. 12. Perform complex analysis in reconciling bills and cash receipts to facilitate general ledger closeout. 13. Prepare trend analysis.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree (preferably in business administration or related field) and three to five years of related experience acquired at the University of Illinois or similarly large and complex organization. Other required qualifications include: experience preparing and managing budgets; excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills to produce accurate, detail-oriented work while meeting stringent deadlines; excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to coordinate unit activities that yield results in contributing toward achieving established objectives and goals; strong interpersonal skills to develop good work relationships; ability to exercise good judgment and discretion; excellent customer service skills; operational knowledge of business and finance; analytical skills; and proficiency with Microsoft computer programs/applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Internet Explorer). Other desirable qualifications include: Sponsored projects administration especially with post award activities, Banner (or similar software) experience. This is a full-time, 12-month Academic Professional position.
