Underwriter

SUMMARY:

Underwrite and evaluate the credit risk of mortgage loan applications in accordance with Secondary Market and, Independent Bank Corporation’s credit standards and Code of Professional Ethics. Underwrites all Conventional, Government, RD, Jumbo and Portfolio loans within lending authority limits. Ensure that each loan is evaluated for credit risk within the defined underwriting scope. Coordinates the loan underwriting process between the originator, processor, closer, and servicing personnel. Assure documentation complies with agency, investor and regulatory requirements. Performs additional responsibilities or assignments as requested. Communicates with site management regarding quality, problem solving, and any other underwriting related issues. Be creative in offering alternatives in documentation and programs. Assist in training of mortgage employees as needed.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma with appropriate experience and training, some college education preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years mortgage underwriting experience.  HUD, Direct Endorsement and VA delegated authority experience also required.  Automated underwriting experience required.  Familiarity with computers including use of Microsoft Office programs, internet usage, and typing.  Good organizational skills preferred.
