Description
SUMMARY
Responsible for managing the agency relations area with primary focus on the management of agent activities including market research, contracting and licensing, agency reviews, commission/profit sharing, agent systems support and enhancements, agent association support, regulatory compliance and training/support.
RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS
- Reviews and makes recommendations on agent incentive program that includes, but is not limited to, alternative incentive recommendations, profit sharing, program modifications, and implementation.
- Oversees the development and management of agent, policyholder and agency Customer Service Representative educational and training programs.
- Manages the agent/policyholder survey process.
- Oversees the competitive intelligence/market research function
- Responsible for planning, organizing and managing the annual BDC boot camp.
- Directs other Accident Fund areas to coordinate Company participation in agency conventions and other special marketing events.
- Directs and manages marketing tasks with the Corporate Communications department.
- Manages special projects and serves on project teams, as assigned.
- Responsible for the development and management of goals, objectives and systems needed to support the work of Agency Relations.
- Trains and develops staff, as necessary.
- Works with minimum supervision and exercises sufficient discretion and independent judgement.
- Maintains confidentiality of information processed.
- Participate in development of annual departmental budget, monitor budget and identify budget discrepancies. Research cause and make recommendations.
- Responsibility for balancing workload to optimize the effectiveness of the department.
DIRECTION EXERCISED
Directly supervises exempt and non-exempt staff (approximately four to five direct reports) in accordance with company policies and applicable Federal and State Laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; supporting and encouraging the engagement process.

Requirements
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in insurance, marketing, business or related field required. Progress towards, or completion of, industry recognized professional designations (i.e. IIA, AIU, CPCU, ARM) preferred. Combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
EXPERIENCE
Five years experience in an insurance organization with demonstrated technical knowledge with underwriting, marketing or knowledge that provides the necessary skills and abilities. Two years management or supervisory experience, or combinations of related training and experience required. Event coordination or insurance-based relations is preferred.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED
- Considerable knowledge of the workers compensation insurance industry and the independent agency system.
- Ability to interact with others to build consensus and get decisions implemented.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Ability and proficiency in the use of computers and company standard software, including advanced knowledge in Excel, Access and other corporate databases.
- Ability to comprehend the consequences of various problem situations and address them, or refer them for appropriate decision-making.
- Ability to make competent, independent decisions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to perform other assignments at locations outside the office.
Must demonstrate leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff and interact with all levels of management.
- Ability to work with and empower others on a collaborative basis to ensure success of unit team.
- Ability to effectively exchange information, in verbal or written form, by sharing ideas, reporting facts and other information, responding to questions and employing active listening techniques.
- Ability to effectively present budgetary and/or cost information, and respond to questions as appropriate.
- Ability to establish workflows, manages multiple projects, and meets necessary deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards. Limited travel is required of once or twice per quarter, with some overnight stays.
