Complete DescriptionThe Registered Professional Nurse is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patents via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/equipment and other health care team members. The Registered Professional Nurse has knowledge, and abilities necessary to provide this care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit as defined in the unit's scope of care. Provides general nursing care to patients in hospital, nursing home, infirmary, or similar health care facility by performing the following duties.
Specific Responsibilities:The Registered Professional Nurse performs assessments of patients and families, which reflect physiological, psychological, environmental and spiritual factors. The RN will identify individualized patient care problems and patient needs.For this role, you must be knowledge of psychiatric theories as evidenced by:
- a) the ability to recognize signs and symptoms of pathological behavior. (example: isolation, depression, preoccupation, paranoid ideation, hallucinations, delusions, impulse control defects, organicity, memory impairment, etc.)
- b) the ability to recognize most common diagnoses by symptoms (example: Depression, Bi-Polar, Paranoia, Borderline Personality Disorder, and other Axis I & II diagnoses).
- c) the ability to recognize common defense mechanisms (example: denial, isolation of affect, projection, suppression, repression, rationalization, reaction formation, introjection etc.)
The RN documents a problem list in observable, measurable, behavioral terms and completes all assessment forms in the time frames set by JCAHO, IDPH and hospital policy.The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for incorporating assessment data into a plan of care for the patient.The Registered Professional Nurse provides direct care to patients through implementation of the treatment plan by establishing 1:1 relationships, engaging in-patient and family education, and leads group therapy, educational seminars, and community meetings.The Registered Professional Nurse evaluates the patient's response to medical and nursing interventions by recording daily progress notes which reflect the patients response to treatment, making revisions to the treatment plan as required by the patient's status, and collaborating with other disciplines to revise the treatment plan to reflect patient's changing needs.The Registered Professional Nurse fosters teamwork and provides leadership to ancillary staff.
Requirements:A minimum of Associate's degree (A. A.) in nursing from an accredited school. Experience preferredPC computer proficiency is preferred.Current Illinois Registered Nurse License and current certification in CPR.
